Martial Arts
Just curious who here has taken them? What style have you studied and how far did you go?
Personally I have studied Tai Kwan do, Kobi Ashi Ru and Hopkido.

Hugger Orange/W stripes- 1999 Z28 M6
Started in 1983 and picked up a lot since then.
Although I can't profess to my proficiency, I have studied some Aikido, Ju Jitsu, Kempo, Judo, some knife-fighting skills, and other groundfighting/grappling specialties.
I was lucky enough to have a brief seminar with Carlson Gracie, Jr. (Brazilian Ju Jitsu) about a year ago (I hate shrimping!!!) I'm not real big on kicks, but I do like the other strikes, locks, and submission holds that apply to real life street fights since I'm a cop.

Brazilian Ju Jitsu, Ju Jitsu, expert in combat knife-fighting, expert in hand to hand combat. Some of the advantages of putting your self threw hell for fifty two weeks. I love my Ranger tabs, and if I didn't take a round. I would of pushed for Speacial Forces(Green Beret Status)..

Learned from friends of several different styles then studied Jeet-Kun-Do.
Got into weapons of all types and had a compelling urge to learn them all.
I believe there is in ancient inner drive that is pushing me to practice them.
And no I have not been in a street fight since I learned self control...

1997 Grand Cherokee- 1999 Firebird.
On a side note, I've been wondering what to enroll my son in. He's only 2 right now so it will be a few years. Kempo maybe? Muy Thi? (sp) I want him to learn something useful in a street fight scenario. What is the "best" offensive martial art?

I personally think tae kwan do is great for the young kids and will teach them discipline. He will be more then prepared to handle his own for a while and once he is in it for a while and gets where you think he should be switch him over and let him learn another style. That is what I did and it worked out very well.

at a young age, i'd say boxing. because most fights at school with a bully will deal with punching. but you have to be careful. kids bore out of that shit early. i remember when i was in TKD. young ass kids would come in, half ass everything, and go up in belts. it's good for them to learn when their about 7 or so. but i'd honestly say, some type of ground fighting/boxing/kickboxing would be best for street use. cause you can punch and kick the shit out of the person, and then choke them out for an extra affect..

Black & Brilliant Silver- 1999&1997 SL600 6.0 V12's
i took 6yrs of tae kwan do. it is all defensive. i learned how to block thats about it. and some kicks. then i moved on to something with practial application bjj. if i were gona teach my kid, god i hope there arent any out there. i would have him/her learn muay thai and bjj. so you could knock them out or choke them out, your choice. most are flash. those two are all real world based!!! Wanderlei Silva aka the axe murderer art mauy thai. and Rodrigo "minatoro" Nogueira bjj representing the brazilian top team which i am affiliated with.
its all about who goes home intact, and who goes home with a black eye and a broke arm!!!!
