Making some bold moves.

I'm taking my life in a whole new direction. Some may say it's a step backward. I mean after all.... this is the place I once ran from. Why would I willingly go back? Because maybe it was always part of the plan.

Last night I signed up to take the NYC open competitive exam number 2000 for the position of FDNY Firefighter.

Once upon a time I held the position of FDNY EMT-D and firefighter was simply a promotion away. I failed that promotional exam. I resigned the department hoping to make an educated man out of myself. I went back to school, got my degree in marketing. I landed a job where I've been working with some great people for quite some time now.

Problem is, I still have something to prove to myself. September will be my 29th birthday and I will no longer be eligible to sign up for any future firefighter exams in NYC. But that CPAT (Candidate Physical Aptitude Test) and I have some unfinished business. I will not look back on my life and say the test beat me. I won't give it that satisfaction. I will make the change. I will rebuild myself. I will be stronger and faster than that test. I will claim my rightful place in line for admission to "The Rock" (The FDNY training facility on Randalls Island) and should the time come, the time that my number is called, I will rise to the challenge. I will not bend, I will not break, I will be invincible.

but seriously, I am super excited about this. I'm going to sign up for the NYPD exam too and I'm also looking into flight schools to get my pilots license. Busy busy boy am I.

You will make it my friend. You have the drive, the will, want, desire, its easy to see in your posts how bad you want it. If its your dream by no means is it a step back my friend.

HAHA yeah. Mother, Uncle and step father all FDNY. Even I am ex FDNY.

My mother said a lot of the firefighters in her old house were working long strings of mutual shift exchanges. The end result is.... 6 straight days in the fire house. The rest of the month you are off.

Awwwwwhhhhhhh Yeeeeaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!!

I am sore as hell. Week 1 is behind me. I was NOT ready for this intensity. I miss this feeling. I can't move but i'm happy about it. I have a new found love of cardio and a sudden desire to document my progress. I won't scare LS1 by posting pictures of my flabby white body but before and after shots may eventually be in the cards. Everything I feel like I want in life right now depends on me doing this. I'd be so depressed if I were to fail at this. i must drag myself and make this happen. It's hard..... but it will be worth it.
