My life is a- Ben Stiller movie.
i saw a T/a that maaco painted yellow. They forgot a a few important steps: stripping the previous color and primer. i could see black everywhere there was a sharp corner/edge [like around the every edge of a body panel] and that was thier TOP quality job

Pretty much the same thing i've seen from Maaco jobs. I know they are a franchise and you could get that one Maaco shop but in general its a cheap paint job for a reason even their best package. They pretty much spray the new paint on (maybe some sanding..) and tape off some crucial areas like the door jobs/etc but you will still easily find overspray everywhere and under the hood.
Pretty much for the same if not cheaper you could go out and buy a cheapie paint guns, paint, prep materials and do it cheaper and sadly better than what they do from what i've seen and you'll have a learning experience.

I have also heard from multiple people, that if you buy their "cheapy" special, and dont specify not to, that they will paint over your windows (no joke), and get some on your tires/wheels.

We'll you get what you pay for. There is a guy on here with a teal type paint job that he got from Maaco and it looked real nice.
It all depends on who does it but the best bet would be to take it to a professional shop that isnt a franchise and talk to the guys beforehand.

This is the best I can do....
Its his profile on here. http://www.ls1.com/forums/member.php?u=1065
It seems all the other pictures of his car were deleted on Photobucket. PM him and ask him about his paint job.

I do all my own body/paint work. So that's one area I'm so glad I don't gota deal with others on. As far as maaco's go, it's hit or miss. Some places do excellent work, while others you can do as good with a spray can. So I'd reconmend checking them out and see some work they have did and go from there. Anyone can spray paint, its the prep work that makes the paint job.

You get what you pay for. As long as you don't expect too much, go for it.

I have a friend that had maaco paint his truck about 5 or 6 years ago and it still looks good, he did all the prep himself, sanding masking all that so all they had to do was spray

The prep is more important than the actual paint.

Yeah, um no. I agree with what you're saying, or rather meant I think. That prep is crucial to a good paint job. But the paint or the layering/adhesion/fisheyes/sink/and or orange peel affects a substantial amount of the quality of the job too.
What good is a perfectly prepped, masked and primered job that has sag, drips, fisheyes and etc ?
No part of a paint job is less important than another, just one more reason why GOOD bodywork/paint is so expensive.
Just my .02
I have seen good work out of a couple of Maaco's. But that's the exception, not the rule. For a Daily Driver tho.. Is it really THAT important ?
Depends on your DD I guess, my 99 Kia ? LoL Rattle can that sucker.

this is what I got from maaco. beautiful job IMO. They fitted the fiberglass hood and everything. You just have to see some of the work they are putting out and then be willing to pay top dollar if you want a top dollar paint job.
