    LT5, ZR1 Engine

Well, my stepdad is ditching his original plains of building up his built LT1 (383, LT4). This will be for an 88 Corvette. But he his bond and determine to fine an LT5 engine and building it up. But there not easy to come across, so help would be appreciated... I tried to talk him out of it, but when he sets his sites to it, he will fine a way to do it. I still am trying to talk him into an LSx 454 build, but he's an LTx guy. So just keep an eye out and informed if you find one.

    Original Plains:
Take one of our virgin LT1 block
Bore and Stoke into a 383
Use the forged internals out of his older built engine, along with cam (LT4).
    Custom Heads
    F/I

    New Plain:
    LT5
Bore/Stroke (I am sure he would)
    F/I

He has not talked much about it though... But his goal is 800 HP weekend fun car.

I am thinking the same... I am sure GM, did not produce spares. I am sure there's not many wrecked ZR1's that are willing to give up an engine. But he really wants it, so figured it does not hurt to look.

Awesome swap. Not sure how much aftermarket support is out there though.

Street and Performance's website says they're shipping them... Dunno if that's true or not.

As for aftermarket support, the only tuner I know of that ever really did anything to that motor was Lingenfelter.

EDIT: HAHAHAHA!! I just looked at the pricing for that LT5 stroker kit. $29,900!!! That does include R&R of the motor from your original Z, though. Either way, for that kind of dough you could have one of those 500CID LSx motors with the block extension on it.

Then you have to deal with running the variable intake, the "valet" switch and more. Only a car ignorant homo would go for that, even if you're rich. You could get a real zr-1 for less than it would take to get that thing running.

I keep telling him he's going to spend around $10,000 just for an engine and the mod area is slim and will cost a fortune to get the power he wants... I just don't think he believes me, I think he may think he can get one for a grand or two...

But I found just the block alone for $2,000... I am still trying to talk him into a LSX 434, for practical reasons.

    Or

Sell the Vette, sell the Acura. Use the engine, vette money, Acura money, and money he was going to spend on mom for a car to drive around town. Buy a nice low mileage ZR1. He wants the new one, but does not think it's worth it. Says he can build a car for half the price or less, that will spank it.

those LT5's can spin like 8000 rpm, and still make power up there. pretty badass technology for the 90's.

i would think its easier to put an LT5 in then it is to put an lsx engine in there. Being that the LT5 already has engine mounts available. theres not much in the way of "custom" shit to do. persay. Lingenfelter and Doug Rippie motorsports were the premier LT5 guys as far as modding goes. Im pretty sure Lingenfelter has gotten just about as much power and any sane person could ever want out of that motor too
