Why do the speed limits need to be lowered for people to go slower? Leave them as they are.

It would save gas, but most people would probably drive the same speed they do now.

You guys are probably too young to remember the national 55 mph speed limit in the seventies and eighties.

    My life is a
    Ben Stiller movie.

they need to have a designated "minivan/SUV lane" and a designated "car lane" so those soccer moms and there slow ass shit can stay the fuck out of my way.

They shouldn't lower them, but if gas gets high enough, they'll do it just like they did in the past.

This is punishment for all the soccer moms who have been buying these damn SUVS all these years.

I hate gas prices but it would be a good thing if our economy as a whole didn't suffer so much.

Doesn't anyone care that a Scion Xb is more comfortable to be in than a damn Excursion?

lowering the speed limits would be a mistake.... its a piss poor over active re-action of uneducated people that can not think logically. (just like the people that bitch and say red light cameras increase rearend accidents, no poor drivers create rearend accidents).

We would actually be fine with increased speed zones, if people where better educated drivers, paid more attention, not always in a hurry and stricker drivers exams.

Its backwards, if you get a moving violation you have to go to traffic school, people should have to be required to attend traffic school regardless.

Driving is a privileage not a right, and most people abuse that privileage by not following the rules of the road. Yeah I speed all the time, but I dont cause accidents or drive reckless.

Seconldy lower speed limits would not do much in effecting the consumption of fuel. Yes higher speed will slightly increase fuel consumption, however its acceleration that eats fuel.

Considering the improvements made in handeling, safety, performance and overall car design since the speed limits were set, I would say they are grossly outdated and should be raised in some areas.

As far as gas consumption goes, speeds made a large difference with the inneficient motors and boxy designs of the 70's it won't make as big of an impact now.

If they lower the limts, it'll be for show not for practicality (also for raising revenue from speeding tickets, yay).

The only reason i don't like the red light cameras is when they shorten the yellow lights to try and make money. I could see that being a hazard, but lowering the speed limit would be a mistake.

Newer cars get better fuel mileage at the 75-85MPH range.
