lol, it was worth a try (IROC related)
So before dropping hundreds of dollars on my car, I figured I would see what I could do at little to no cost to me, which was partially described in my previous thread on the topic.
Anyway, what I was hoping to do was read the PROM to copy the data, and then replace the data onto a new chip. The following is what happened.
Here's ma computer
And here's my MEMCAL
The chip is soldered in, so instead of ruining a possibly working PROM, I decided to do some redneck engineering
Fitting for a thirdgen, hmmm?
Anyway, here's my nifty chip reader device
Then I connected the chip
Unfortunately, the chip was unable to be read no matter what configuration I inserted the chip into the programmer. Each time left me with the following error message:
Didn't hurt attempting something that didn't cost anything, so I'm not too disappointed
So, on to Plan V, or W, or X maybe, I've lost count at this point.Last edited by 86 IROC-Z; 07-05-2010 at 08:34 PM. Reason: pics

Navy Blue Metallic- 98 T/A w/ mods, 00 FBVert
I hate to ask but - do you think you might not have connected the correct pins in order to do what you were trying to do? Or is it just non compatible software?

Impressive attempt. Where did you happen to stumble upon a "Chipmaster"?

Being from (or at least residing in) a Southern state I assume you know of the relationship between Mt Dew and Jack Daniels?

When I was stationed in Colorado I shared a house with a couple of good ole southern boys.
As Colorado had "Blue laws" (no alcohol sales on Sunday) we would buy 2 or 3 bottles of Jack on Saturday. They insisted on drinking it with Mt Dew so I played along.
I agree though, Mt Dew DOES NOT mix with alcohol.
Rum and Coke, OTOH....
