Lighthouses are... just cool.
The wife and I went out to a nice quiet dinner this evening and then walked over to the Currituck Beach Lighthouse. I photograph it every time we come down and have been up it twice in years past. The lighthouse went active in 1875, stands 162' tall, is 28' in diameter at the base, and there were about 1,000,000 bricks total used in its construction. The lighthouse is beautifully restored and is incredible to see in person. It sets in the area of the Whalehead Club, on the soundside of the Outer Banks, which is in the background of the last photo. You'll have to settle for cell phone pics as I have no way to upload them from my camera:

You, of all people, should appreciate a phallic symbol such as this.
Yes they are. Not sure what it's called, but the island lighthouse off the west coast has to be one of the greatest. The storm pics of that thing are just amazing.
Post away -- probably will not see any of them in person.
If that's the one down by Daytona Beach, I'm pretty sure we looked at it from a distance. We went to a nature preserve (the one that has all the tortoises) and could see a lighthouse across the inlet.

You are supposed to turn the wheels toward the curb on a decline, away from the curb on an incline.

A friend of my parents built a replica of the Thomas Point Lighthouse in his backyard and runs a bed and breakfast out of it.
The real one:
