1997 Grand Cherokee- 1999 Firebird.
Let's talk myfflers....Does Flowmaster really suck??
Err....make that mufflers
I want to get a 3" catback system for my Grand Cherokee (5.2) and alot of people on the Jeep forums say Flowmaster sucks but no one has a good suggestion. Some people like Dynomax or Flowmaser or Hooker or Borla etc. but there is always someone saying something bad no matter what brand is brought up. I've had 3 FM40 series in the past and they sound great and last a long time but I'm hearing they don't flow all that well. Thoughts?

I personally like Dynomax bullets, they are fairly cheap and flow straight through with good sound. Just my .02 but i have always heard that about flowmaster

They sound good on my thirdgen. On the loudness scale, my neighbor made a joke about using it as an alarm clock when I used to leave at 7am each morning for school. Only 2k rpm too.

The worst Exhaust you can put on a F-Body is the Flowmaster 80 series.

not really sure about on an ls1 but..
I like the flowmaster 10 series single chamber race muffler. I had them on a 2004 silverado 4.8 with turndowns and they had a good deep tone, no raspiness whatsoever. I am planning on running them on my stroked lt1
oh... for sound clips

Pewter- 2001 Camaro Z28 M6
its not that flowmasters suck, its that GM did a good job on the factory exhaust allowing ls1 cars to breath fairly well. So flowmaster and factory flow about the same. Does that mean GM made a badass factory exhaust, yes it does for the general masses and consumers but for modders, its not as good as what other companies created for their muffler designs.
The best exhaust is straight through, no baffels, no perforations, no fiberglass fill.
My current setup is hooker lts, ory, flowmaster catback, but a cutout before. Nothing flows better then an exhaust dump, except maybe a true dual dump setup. <-- which is coming this winter!
However with flowmaster, they do have some great flowing mufflers, it just depends on if you checking out chambered series, bullet or race series.

Well I coont speak too much of ther performance gains on the GC with a flowmater but as far as sound I had one on my 97 GC with the 5.2 and it sounded really good. I really could tella power diffeance that would be aby good but i didn't have a intake eigther. From what I know you can't get a good exhaust and expect real big gains unless you do some intake beef up as well. However. I did rip off the muffler and subsequently the catalytic converter while off roading one day and talk about LOUD LOUD LOUD. But mean as hell sounding too. I could scare people when i hammered it on the highway...so i took my time repairing it... I got pulled over one time for doing some burnouts in it and the cop only asked my what type of exhaust i had....I told him it was a high flow exhaust....if he had looked under the car i would have been screwed!!! but he didn't and i only got a exabition of speed ticket. Wasn't until the base i was at started asking questions that I had todo something about it.....you cna get away with anything in Groton CT.
Well I know i rattled on for a while.... So bck to your question.... No I didn't see any noticble gains but it sounds nice

1997 Grand Cherokee- 1999 Firebird.
Just got back from the exhaust shop. WOW!!! What a difference! I got the cat cut off and a piece of straight pipe welded where the cat was. They cut a hole in the pipe, welded on a jam nut, and attached my O2 sensor to that. Then they cut off my factory muffler and installed a NON Delta Flow 40 series Flowmaster. Then they welded a nice chrome tip which looks alot like the one on the 5.9 Jeeps. It sounds BAD ASS!!! Great idle tone, impressive acceleration tone, but ZERO drone inside. It sounds like it should be running 10 second 1/4s HUUUUGE SOP improvement although I doubt I picked up the 15hp the guy at the exhaust shop said I would. God I wish my Firebird sounded half this good. The total was $239 after tax. I'm happy. I'll have sound clips and pics soon.
