Leaving on a cruise tomorrow
Technically on Sunday, but flying out of BWI to Houston tomorrow. Princess Cruises...going to Roatan Honduras where I'll be snorkeling a barrier reef from a 65' catamaran. Then it's up to Belize City, Belize where I'll be going on a river cruise and see the Lamanai Mayan ruins. Last stop is Cozumel Mexico...decided to just veg out and go to Passion Island Beach and enjoy the open bar.

Never been on a cruise. We signed up for one years ago and then cancelled several weeks before departure.

Well I'm back. Cliff notes:
We had fun but the trip was a total cluster. Our flight out of BWI was cancelled after sitting on the airplane for three hours. BWI half de-iced us and then said that the airport had shut down. We went back to the gate where Southwest told us to see the customer service rep for "accomodations". There were none. We slept on the floor and they turnd the heat down. People were miserable. There were families with toddlers wrapped in blankets on the cold floor. The TSA wouldn't let us go back into the warm terminal past the security check points. Southwest said they would unload our luggage, and that it would take between an hour and a half and three hours. Halfway through they said no more luggage would be unloaded, shut everything down and left. We managed to get to Houston by flying to Ft. Lauderdale and getting a connection from there. Our luggage was supposed to follow on the first nonstop flight from BWI, but that flight was delayed so we ended up with nothing for the week. They gave us $600 each for clothes, etc while on the trip.
We ended up having to buy everything on ship or at the ports. We missed our snorkelling excusion on Roatan due to having to buy clothes. That was a bit shady...armed guard escorted us from the taxi, into the store and back out. We missed Belize due to bad weather which I'm really bummed about...I wanted to see the Mayan ruins. There was no actual port dock there, and the water was too rough to load people into the water taxis to shore. Cozumel was a wash due to the weather as well. They hadn't seen weather that bad in a while, the sea was all churned up, it was overcast and cool.
Anyway, the ship was fun...we got a lot of sun and enjoyed the bar, pools, etc. I won't sail out of Houston again, as the logistics of getting there are too much of a pain in the ass. Ft. Lauderdale is a simple two hour flight, etc. I think next trip I'll try the 10 day Eastern Caribbean voyage that hits a ton of ports all the way down to St. Lucia.Last edited by cam02ss; 02-23-2015 at 07:12 AM.

Don't forget New Orleans. They have a port of call there as well. Mobile used to till the BP accident, now we have to go to NO.

a trip like that would make me murder my wife just to shut her up.........at some point I'd get tired of hearing the bitching and just snap and start murdering people.

Damn that sucks. I had a buddy cruise out of Puerto Rico with RC. The ports of call list on that cruise was pretty appealing.

10 days eastern Caribbean sounds nice. I'm going to plan this one next for mid March. Hopefully the weather is better. The ports sound nice...

Anytime you try to leave from the upper states at his time of year is hit or miss. Sucks you had a bad experience, and from the sound of it, none of it was due to the cruise ship.

Never been on a cruise. I'm considering a 1-2 day cruise while vacationing in Alaska. Mostly because I want to see the glaciers better....without running into them, hopefully....
