    lcd tv question

So I plan on getting an lcd tv this next week, but I have a question. If all other things are equal, will I really notice a difference between 5000:1 and 1000:1 contrast ratio if all other specs are equal. I plan on mainly using it for my ps3, the occassional blueray, boosted dvd movies, and regular tv. The brightness, size, response time, and definition are the same. thanks guys

contrast ratio doesnt have to be measured in any one certain way so manufacturers can really fuck with ya on that one, its ideally supposed to be used to dceipher the greatest difference between the darkest black and brightest white that the tv can produce. best way to honestly evaluate it is your own eye, which one has the best black levels, digital noise reduction, motion procession, shadow detail and brighter colors as well kinda like havin your cake and eating it too. go to your local electronics retailer and check em out. which ones have you been lookin at?

What he said! I looked at many HD TV's and the contrast ratio, didn't show me anything. They all have thier own "contrast whatever"... I just went to several stores over a period of time. I wound up with the Toshiba 52" LCD. Picture quality is great. If they make them better I most likely couldn't tell anyway.

We looked at DLP, Plasma, and LCD. I think you just have to decide what looks best to you and the room it is going into.

I can't decide between the Samsung 37" or the Vizio 37". The Vizio is a few hundred cheaper and I don't think I can honestly tell a difference that couldn't be fixed by adjusting the picture. I'm just really careful when I buy stuff and I think it's all going to my head lol

you dont search for TV info on a car forum you search:

    I have a Panasonic 42" Plasma 1080P native 1920x1200.

The picture is amazing and the sound is the best. I actually disconnected my home theater because the tv sounds that good.

model number ending with 700U has the BBE 3D sound. BBE makes equipment for the recording/music industry and did an amazing job on the sound for this plasma. The bass rattles my kitchen cabinets and sounds clean. Also you dont have to worry about burn in on these 8 generation of plasma. I play xbox 360 all the time and no issue at all. Most good plasma like Panasonic have pixel massagers.

Panasonics are rated number 2 in TVs with Pioneer being number 1, for about $1k more.

I bought my 42" Pana for $1400 out the door at best buy, typical goes for $2k before tax

    Also check cnet reviews.

Finally yes higher contrast ratio is important however there is no standard setup regarding the contrast ratio, what one manufacturers 5000:1 ratio could 10000:1 to another..
