I like those. They look like S.W.A.T. boots. I have to either get my Red Wing boots repaired or replaced soon.

I did a lot of walking on my last deployment. I wore Asolo Fugitive GTXs and loved them. They were heavy enough for good support walking with a load but light enough to not make me think my feet were heavy. Good ankle support too. They were a little on the hot side at times but over all...I'm more than pleased. They didn't wear out as fast as my Oakley boots did and I wear them for general walking/hunting/hiking in my civilian life. I wish I could wear them everyday at work.

Dry = warm, especially when you wear wool socks in the winter. I got them a little bigger to accomidate the extra socks.

In general are you happy with Red Wing boots? What do they go for, where do you get them etc. I've used brahma walmart boots the last few years or so and they just dont cut it. Besides not lasting more then 8 months without falling apart, they are giving me all kinds of foot problems. Its time to actually spend some money on a good pair of boots that last.

Never even heard of these, I loved my oakleys cause I have had them for a whole deployment now, and they still look almost brand new. At the beginning of the deployment I bought some bates, and those mofo's didnt last a month in iraq pissed me the hell off.

A question to the soldiers on this board, you guys have to buy the boots yourselves? I thought that was government issued stuff? Or do you elect to select your own stuff?

They do get issued, but I believe most prefer to buy higher quality ones on their own, because you're basically living in them for a year, you don't want to fuck up your feet.

The personally chosen boots just have to be within regulation (color, style, etc).

They look like a cheap knock-off variant of my Danner Acadia duty boots: http://www.danner.com/boots/acadiar-...orm-boots.html
Also can be ordered with insulation: http://www.danner.com/boots/acadiar-...orm-boots.html and http://www.danner.com/boots/acadiar-...orm-boots.html. Heavy and expensive, but built solid as hell. I mainly wear these on regular patrol http://www.danner.com/boots/strikert...orm-boots.html (much lighter) but if I had to spend a day hiking out the mountains around here I'd 10x rather wear my Acadias.

I can't see spending $300+ on one pair of boots. I'm sure they're built solid and all but to me you're just paying for a name.

~$250. And I don't spend shit (except on my Strikers, because our supplier only has 4.5" high and I prefer 8", but those are under $100 if you're a smart shopper) because we have an annual uniform allowance. At my old job, I used to buy $50 boots every 6 months. I'd rather buy $250 boots every 3 years. Just sayin.

Just like iroc said, but national guard and reserve get it issued to you whenever you can actually get a good supply nco, but active duty gets a yearly allowance to buy the things they need.
