    job question

How long do you guys give a new job before you right off that it sucks? I started a new job today as a Hyundai tech. Now from what I understand Hyundai is a reliable car that basically only gets maintenance which can put a lot of money in a techs pocket. The actual car aside, theres things about the facility that make me concerned. These things might either take awhile to get used to, or be washed away if good paychecks come my way. On an average when you guys go for new jobs how long do you give it? heres a small list of the "gripes" that im referring to that sound trivial but can amount to a serious pain in the ass when you actually face them

    1. the parking absolutely sucks a fat horse cock. worst I've ever seen at any car dealer i've ever been to. Small lot, every new car spot is full, hardly any customer parking for either sales or service. dont even get me started on the tech parking lot. theres only like 9 service members but everybody parks bumper to bumper. so first guy there gets trapped if you have to step out for watever reason. i used to bitch about the parking at my old job. now i regret it. i had my own TITLED spot.
    2. The shop is pretty fuckin dirty. no porter to clean the floor. i asked the new boss how often it gets cleaned and his response was "often as you want" meaning the techs do it. that fuckin blows
    3. Things that you guys wouldnt understand unless you are technicians, like the way the Repair Orders are written up and handled.
    4. Old job to drain your oil bucket you simply walked through the battlefield of air hoses, messes, tools etc to get to this big 50 gallon drum to dump the oil. new place you walk freely but you gotta stand at the fuckin corner and pump the oil out of the bucket and it takes forever and wastes time. i know it sounds retarded but its stupid stuff like this that actually gets really annoying after awhile.
    5. the wash up area, its a sink and a fuckin tub of gojo. old place had a big giant troff sink with shit loads of soap. this sounds stupid, but when 430 hits and you got a bunch of guys that all wanna get out of there.......
Thats it for now im sure something else will come up. Hoping for serious answers on this cause im fuckin on edge right now lol
I might add to this thread on some point about how all that stuff isnt as much of a problem cause the money is good and the enviroment as a whole is good but for now who knows. I jus got soo damn used to my old job. I knew every single face in the building on a first name basis and would even bullshit with nearly every last one.

If i'm getting along with everyone I usually stay at a job for at least a few months....sometimes you just have to get out of your old habits and then you'll feel better about your new job. Does your new boss seem open to improvement ideas?

Hyundais are reliable? I've always heard the opposite...they do have a great warranty though

Hahaha, your gripes made me laugh. I used to hate all that Shit too, or at lest shit like that.
It does suck about the Parking, so why not park a couple blocks away and walk?
    Walking is Great exercise.

As for the floor, why not just clean the hell out of it, maybe the boss will see you have initiative and give you more responsibility.

Figure an easy way to dump the oil, and if it works and is safe, see the last comment.
As for the orders and shit, I know what you mean, we have a stupid system too, and there is no way to change it.

give it a couple month's, if it still sucks, walk. (you are too young to work forever in a hated job)

Well I know what you are talking about, I just moved here 4 weeks ago. I've been a tech for 13-14 years (ASE L1 Master) and since 2000 I've been working on Land Rovers, I started working at the dealership out here 3 weeks ago and although it's the same work the way they run things are a lot different. My old dealership in Denver was ran so much more efficiently and a lot more busy. So it's been frustrating at how inefficiently things seem to be ran here.
But I usually give about 3 months to get adjusted to a new place, and then decide from there. starting a new job ALWAYS sucks at first in 1 way or another.

how old are you and how long have you been wrenching btw?

    edit: I see you're 24.

my advice, don't work at a dealership where the product doesn't break down much, doing nothing but services get old real quick and you don't learn anything new.

Thanks for the response man. YOu have good ideas. The oil thing, doesnt seem like there is any way around it. To me its really illogical to not have a simple huge drum to jus dump it in, and use the pump to pump it out of there.
Repair orders.... THis is the specifics I can now use since there are THANKFULLY techs on this site. ( now that i know this I hope to get to know you guys better) Old jobs repair orders were simple the way they were printed out and all you had to write was 1. mileage in and out 2. tech number 3. your write up of what you did, and when under warranty the obvious details to get paid. this was a pain in the ass at times but not that big a deal. Then you jus have your flag that you punch on and off and the writer writes what it paid in the bottom corner and sticks it on the repair order.NEW JOB theres a hard and soft copy, parts gets the soft service the hard, then you gotta punch on the repair order, punch the flag, yet the flag doesnt go back to the writer. for some reason it stays outside. so i had absolutely no idea what i made today. now its not that any of that is a big deal, but its jus way more complicated then it needs to be. the old job the parts guys billed everything to the ticket through the computer. it made sense.

Ps. Do the dealers you guys work at supply you with simple things like gloves? because this one doesnt. also and im sure its the case, am I the only tech on earth that actually prefers the bench brake lathe to that pro cut thing? everytime I ever used it, it always fucks up. The head is either moving or theres some sort of problem. For some reason I find it a lot easier to jus hit the rotor off and throw it on the bench. Got a perfect cut everytime. Provided its not a 4x4 with the bearings and such

I know exactly what you mean. There were a lot of things that werent perfect about my old job but it was somewhat organized. You might yell, but normally there werent too many problems. there would be problems with service/parts most of the time and maybe scuffles with a writer. BUt this new place almost seems like controlled chaos. im sure in a few months it'll grow normal to me but shit, i guess im jus really out of my comfort zone. i have a bunch of friends that i would talk to outside of work from that job.
