Ebay or craigslist. Most stores won't give you a fair value unless you are trading it in. You'd be better off trying to sell it outright.

What I mean is most retail outlets will give you the wholesale value of the gold and diamonds.

Retail prices or what the store appraisal says =/= to what the diamond(s) are actually worth. I think you'll be lucky if you get someone to pay 7g for it. Is the stone certified? Do you have any AGS paperwork on it? Is the stone serialized?

Private Party will net you the most money, IMO. Since you're nearing a 5-figure ring, you may consider getting some professional pictures done. High resolution, high detail (that is, unless it's all scratched up).

    The wifes:

.803 ct, VS1, Color: F, ACA Hearts and Arrows, super-ideal cut. Minimal inclusions. AGA certified/serialized.

I think the stone was about 5-6k from whiteflash.com. Can't recall exactly.

Take it to a place that buys precious metals and gems. they pay based on the going price for the metal and gems, at least the reputable ones do. I just sold a 10k ring (no gem just the setting) for 210 and that was based on the current gold prices

My fiancées ring is hearts and arrows, it's either G or F, it's really high on all those scales, but I got it way cheap cuz it had one hefty black speck, but you have to look at it just right, and you can barely see it.

But "naked eye" flaws are a huge ding.

It was 2200 I think, similar stones without visible flaws were in the 6-7 range
LS6 intake, Pacesetters, TSP rumbler !EGR, !AIR, 295/35 BFG KDW II's, UMI Adj LCAs. Tick Master Cylinder, LS7 Clutch and flywheel, Pro 5.0, Lous short stick, Frost Tune.

Small diamonds and chips are junk........sorry to anyone who thinks differently. Member of my Masons sells and builds rings, watchest....etc

If a store sells you a ring wih a SINGLE diamone and its 9k than the diamond cost them about 1k.

a 9/10ths perfect diamon is about 1/10th the cost of the highest level. I would sell that ring for whatever I could get out of it. Hell part the thing out. Get 1k (MAYBE) for the setting and make some earings out of the rest.

realistically diamonds are a dime a dozen unless you start getting into the larger stones. and the value really isn't there in a firm sense. diamonds...jewelry in general...is priced relative to what the retailer believes that the buyer is willing to pay. since there is a belief that gemstones and jewelry should be expensive...it is. and since most jewelry that people buy comes from large retailers like you see on tv there isn't a lot of originality in the settings or the stone cuts. they get the diamonds and the settings at a low cost and put them together and then get crazy high mark up prices for the product. that's why you shouldn't feel bad about waking into a store that is having a 75% off sale and buying jewelry...they're still making a profit on the vast majority of it...or at minimum breaking even.

as stated...your best bet to get the highest dollar is going private party or if you think it's valuable enough having it certified and placing it on an auction with a reserve that you would take as your lowest offer.

she will make that shit into something else before she lets it go for less than half what she paid for it...maybe private sale is the best way to go.

my father owns a jewelery story, and i can tell you that you wont get shit for it. your best option would be to find a friend or someone who is looking for a nice ring and to sell it for 5.5k.

Have you thought about a consignment situation with a retailer?
