the whole sound sucks, the lyrics dont compare to and justice for all. they basically mute kirk hammett, all hetfield says is YEAH. its like really lame. jus generic rock now. whatever happened to heavy speed/thrash. i think they need to hang out with the guys from testament.

BlackCherry- Bad Ass 67 Camaro / 2010
You got to figure, it is really hard to write music about all the negatie stuff in life when you are suddenly making millions.
I mean, AJFA was not even released until after the Black album.
And it is one of the best too!!! YEAH!
ONE!

if i had to guess id say pain killers. remember when he got burnt from that fire. he prolly has been takin pills ever since. either that or because of depression. if you watch there movie some kind of monster he seems like the biggest douche to work with. hiring idiots like bob rock. thats a HUGE part of the reason why there albums in the 90s and 00's suck so bad. that idiot bob rock who thinks hes part of the band. meanwhile lars and kirk wanna rock out.

Rolling Stone was not all that impressed with it. Neither was Virgin or several other music outlets. They complained of the bass being almost non-existant, overdone guitar solos, and too long songs.
Please believe, I love that album, but it ws not recieved all that well by the critics.

Rolling Stone magazine is full of leftists journo fags!
While, I agree Black/Load/Reload/St. Anger aren't their best, I do see a progression, but mainly blame their sound on Bob Rock. At least they have Rick Ruben now, so I am interested to see what they have in store.
The way I see music is, I see it as art. Art is subjective, but if the artist is pleased with the way it turns out, we as consumers shouldn't second guess them. I'm sure some of you out there, would look at a Monet and say, "wow, that's crap, my 5 year old dog could do better and he doesn't even paint". Maybe you lack the artistic palette to understand what is trying to be conveyed, maybe, just maybe you don't get it, and not getting it means putting it down.
Just my $.03.

And I could care less what critics say about anything...
Think about when it came out and not to mention the lack of air play Metallica got back in the day. One was the first song and video to even get ANY time on the air. Critics never gave Metallica the credit they deserved.

My life is a- Ben Stiller movie.
umm, there was NO bass on Justice b/c umm...THE BASSIST WAS DEAD. They shot some promo pics w/jason just to fill in the cd sleave.
speaking of, since i didn't watch the movie: why did jason newsted leave? I loved that guy-he was my inspiration to pick up the bass a long time ago.

Metallica has fallen a long way from where they were in the 80's. As soon as Lars dropped the double bass and they cut their hair the band took a real nose dive. I keep hoping with every new album they'll remember where they came from and put out some good metal but the last 3-4 albums have disappointed me. I watched the movie. It sucked. They're a bunch of whiny rich has beens. The only guy in the band that has half sense of what's going on is Kirk. James and Lars went off the deep end. I'm not sure how many times they said the word "feelings" in the movie but it was way to many times.
