is the phone already jailbroken or were you attempting to jailbreak it?
Jailbreaking the phone voids any and all warranties on it.

You do not need wifi to jailbreak the phone. I used blackrain to jailbreak my 3g. I even did my brothers 3g. Neither one jailbreaked through wifi. Now people are experienceing wifi problems once jailbroken with blackrain. There is a fix for the wifi issues when jailbreaking with blackrain. You can also use the pwnage tool the dev team has if you have a mac computer. You can use this site for reference.

I'm not sure how apple handles it, but restoring your phone doesn't delete the files that jailbreaking creates. The serial number is registered to you, and if Apple wanted to, they could probably charge you for the new phone. I'm not saying they would because I've never had to deal with them, but it's still possible.
I doubt that Apple would pursue it, but there are instances where the phone won't restore back to factory settings.Last edited by LgndKller20073; 12-19-2009 at 10:17 PM.

The guys who work at the AT&T store aren't going to give you the third degree. He'll, a lot of them have jailbroken phones themselves. I know someone who had to take their phone back and got a new one in less than 10 min , his was jbroke and restored. The iPhone forums are full of people who have done the same.

Apple only provides a 1 year warranty for the iPhone.
I would NOT jailbreak it. You only jail break an iPhone if you plan on trying and using it for another service provider.
I would plug it into iTunes, pull off any data you really need, then do a restore.\, then update to the latest software.
If all that doesn't work, then take it to Apple and see what they say.

If you just want to jailbreak it you don't need the wifi. I'm not sure what apple will do for you , have you looked at the warrante info? This is the weirdest iPhone thread I've ever seen. I've had mine jbroke twice since the 3gs came out with no problems.

with the recent update ou ned blackra1n to jailbrake it. im usig it with tmobile and for some stupid dumb ass reason you need wifi for it. i dont see why you need wifi when you could just use edge. but for some reason the phone wont read my sim card. when i put it in i dont get any signal lines or anything

i can restore it but thats it. for some reason it just wont read the sim card. i took it to a buddy of mine that knows how to do all kinds o shit to iphones and even he couldnt get it to work. appearently theres a hardware problem thats causing it to not look for a wifi connection. idk
