    Need more info.

Are these Americans performing treasonous actions, or actions otherwise extremely damaging to national security?

Or are they just your happy-go-lucky, starbucks-drinking, texting-while-driving, "lol wat is iraq" Americans?

I'm sure he's asking if the government ordered you to fire on citizens who were turning to violence to overthrow the government, would you follow orders and do it. As for me, I can't answer that question since I'm a Navy Seal.

    Sadly now demodded :(

    Kent State all over again?

Us oldsters know what I'm saying. You youngsters can Google it.

AFAIC, it would depend on the situation. Fire on peaceful demonstrators? No. Fire on an angry anarchist mob? Yes, if my life (or the lives of others) were at stake. Otherwise I'd have to think real hard about it.

But, the oath is to defend the Constitution.

"I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God." (Title 10, US Code; Act of 5 May 1960 replacing the wording first adopted in 1789, with amendment effective 5 October 1962).

What if it's the government and current POTUS at the time that wants to overthrow and violate the Constitution?

Considering the Constitution has stood it's ground for over 200 years, whereas any given President and his posse only lasts a handful of years, I think I'm gonna side with the Constitution.

All the more reason to defend it from those who are supposed to enforce it.
