    1997 Grand Cherokee
    1999 Firebird.

Question If you were going to spend $40k on a new vehicle, what would you get?

I've never had a brand new car and I've managed to save ALOT of money for a down payment. $40,000 (minus my down payment) is the most I can spend and still have the "easy" monthly payments. It HAS to be 4 door. I've been looking at the Dodge 2500 Cummins quad cab trucks but the MPG is bad and the cost of diesel is crazy right now so that's out. The Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland, the Lexus IS 350 and the Cadillac DTS are looking really good right now. I'm leaning towards the Lexus. ANY input would be great!

I vote to save your $$...buy a 2001/2002 camaroSS/Trans-Am or a Terminator and invest the rest or put it towards a downpayment on a house.

From his options it appears he wants something with room, and maybe a warranty.

He also recommends a car and truck in his post. Totally different vehicles. If he wants room and a warranty then I'd suggest a new honda civic (18k) or a honda accord (v6 coupe or hybrid sedan).

Okay go up and reread his post. Then look up the vehicles he has listed. BTW did you read the part about it had to be a 4door?

Why does he need a civic again? If he wants room and a warranty i would suggest the lexus since it is a very nice vehicle and ive had nothing but nice things to say about the ones in our family.

Go back and read my post again and then re-read his post. He wants a reliable 4 DOOR car. How many vehilces are more reliable than a honda civic? Not to mention the fuel economy and other added benefits. I'd suggest saving the $$ and putting it towards a better use...such as RETIREMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!! God forbid you leave your kids $100k in cash rather than $100k in bills.

PS...I recommended a camaro or terminator to try to talk some sense into him....haha...but if you're too dense to realize that....well....nevermind.

No, I want a NEW car. I own a house and my retirement funds are doing quite well. I've worked 1 day of overtime every week for the past 3 years just to have a down payment on a new vehicle of my choice. I could buy 2 or 3 Camaros with what I've saved, but I want something a little more toward the luxury end of the spectrum. I have thought about buying an older (2-3 years) SUV and putting the rest towards a new Camaro SS or Shelby GT-500 whenever they come out. I own an F-body now, but my son is 20 months old and is quickly outgrowing the backseat even in his carseat. I could save another year and buy a new C6.........hmmm....
