If you know somebody who has a Kia. Please enter.

So my GF has to get her 30,000 mile inspection to keep her warranty.(100,000) They want to charge her $500 to inspect her car and do minor maintenance. (oil change, trans fluid change tire rotation etc.)

So........should I have her tell Kia to f**k off or pay the $500?

Any body ever hear of this???

    Pay it.

Unless you can do the maintenance and your receipts are good enough for them to keep the warrenty active.
Which hopefully someone will chime and say if that works or not.

nope, my sister owned a Kia Spectra and now she owns a Kia Sportage. My parents own Kia Sorento.

Never had any problems with the dealers.

yep if you don't pay it, the second something goes wrong they are going to tell you to pound.

The maintenance plan should have been laid out to your gf before she bought the car so she would know what was to be spent at what mileage intervals.

Don't be cheap, it will bite you in the ass. Doesn't take much to cause a 500 dollar repair bill.

Did they go in for their 30,000 check up? Or did they just pass on it or what. I can do (and do) all of this crap myself and it kills me to pay $500 for it.

The spectra was new and sold at 40,000 miles. Sportage has 50,000 and the only thing was changed was the catback exhaust.

The Sorento only has 23,00 miles.

Hmm Call another repair facility and get a quote for a 30k Service. Have them give you an estimate for it ( you will have to go in for that tho') Most places are happy to give you one as they think you will be doing the service there... Make sure you ask if they are able to do factory service. Most 30ks are fluff.. fluids etc and alot of check this, check that..Some require plugs and a few require significant stuff like T-belts..
As far as I know.. The Dealer CANNOT mandate that you do the scheduled service there. Laws vary by state tho.. I would check into it.. Some places have the "Service for Life plan ( the title of the service can vary) and that service CAN be forced to be performed at the selling location ( IE Dealer).

All the car dealers I've worked for all do the following for a 30k service

    1. oil change
    2. pcv valve
    3. air filter
    4. rotate tires
    5. clean and adjust rear brakes if it has rear drums
    6. coolant service sometimes with t-stat
    7. trans service
    8. top off all fluids
    9. check brakes
    10. check all lights and wipers
    11. check battery

That's fucked up...forcing you to pay $500 for their gay maintenance and "inspection" or you lose the warranty. At 30k miles they don't inspect a damn thing...they'll just change the fluids and swipe your debit/credit card.

With dodge they do the inspection free every 5 years for the lifetime powertrain...that's if they haven't gone out of business by then.

Parents had a Kia Sportage (circa 1999), owned it for 8 months, in the shop 14 times within 16,000 miles. Collapsed lifters @ 2000mi. Electrical issues out the ass. Drove approx. 45 miles in 2nd gear because the trans wouldn't shift (electrical). 4wd wouldn't lock in. CV joint went bad @ 12k miles. The sales manager was working on a NY State lemon law for us, then the dealership fired him. Left a pretty bad taste, won't ever own another one.

I have a 01 Kia Spectra and bought it brand new. I never had any inspections from them and I also never paid a dime. I have to say I am pretty happy with mine, it's my daily driver for me or my wife and I put it through HELL.
The only problems I had with the car is at around 40,000 miles I noticed the AC compressor was a little noisy. So I took it in at 5pm one day and picked it up 5pm the next day and they put on a brand new compressor. I just signed a invoice with a $0 balance and I was on my way. Then about 50,000 miles I noticed a very small exhaust leak and tiny bit of oil coming out from the pan gasket. Took it in and got the car back 5 hours later with a new oil pan gasket and a complete new exhaust system from the exhaust manifold back. Again, it did not cost me a dime, I have to say I was pretty impressed.
I now have 139,000 miles on it and only other things I have done is change Struts all around, Brakes all the way around, change timing belt at 101,000, and coolant change at around 120,000. Been using Mobile 1 every 4000 to 7000 miles. Car is also still on original clutch (Knocking on Wood). But I did notice last weekend I need to change a CV boot that is ripped.

Well, called Kia back and they said if we got somebody else to do it and kept the receipts we would be good. So I went to my place and told them the situation. He flushed the radiator, changed transfluid rotated the tires and checked the brakes and all of that other crap. What did not need to be done he just wrote down on the receipt that he did it. Cost $75 bucks, plus a $25 dollar tip he much deserved.
