Yea, that grey is pretty badass for a greyish silvery type color. I sense a hint of green in it.

Well, while we're whoring car colors ...

5 coats of Candy Mandarin Orange over 3 coats of GM Light Driftwood Metallic (gold)

And here's the Candy Winefire I mentioned in a previous post...only picture I could find, and of course, the candy color is vastly different over various base coats, ie: gold base, white base, silver etc.

Another reason I'd not do candy anymore...Unless the car is MINT underneath and you don't have to fade out any stone chips or have any bondo, it shows..bad. Any place you have multiple layers of paint (such as feathering out for a stone chip), even though the entire car has two full coats of primer, it shows up bad. You can see different gradients of the orange over top of the sanded spots. Also, the paint faded pretty quickly IMO. Its not dull, but the pigment seemed to have come out of the color in areas. Maybe I did something wrong, but to the best of my knowledge we didn't.

Next time I do a paint job, I'm going to use Dupont brand, they have a new line out that look nearly as radical as a candy paint job, but they're just plain-ol base/clear jobs that are vibrant.

    Is this a trick question?

I mean, a third gen with a new paint job isn't truly a third gen, is it?

Thanks Ryan. I love the color too. If i were keeping the car, I'd be repainting it the same color again this winter, perhaps ONE more coat of orange to make it a hair darker also with a silver base, and hopefully, it'd end up a bit better this time. We've got some tiger striping in the paint due to a bad mix (a 'dark' mix) in the middle of things (my fault ). I figured out a few coats too late that hey, I should mix all two gallons of paint and not do it a quart at a time oh well. It was the first time we have ever sprayed candy on anything. Live and learn. Like i said though, next time the candy areas will be smaller accents, not the entire thing. Another thing, is that if you can find a hookup (ie: friend that can do the work for free or beers and food or something) the paint is CHEAP compared to having a pro do it, of course, when a pro does it, its done professionally All in all, materials including sanding papers and bondo and whatnot was only around 600 bucks. Pretty cheap considering there was 11 straight hours of JUST spraying the car. Not including the hours of prep and panel repair, and also repainting the drivers side mirror and passengers side front fender FOUR TIMES. Fucking plastic. Anwho.
