    I've done it while camping with an empty snapple bottle. It was in a metal fire pit so the pieces didn't fly too far. We watched from afar. But that wasn't inside a kitchen.

    We did that once with an "empty" propane tank...the explosion was much bigger...and redder

    Was it a small one? That almost happened until my friend realized it was in there. I dont think we would have been ok if it went off.
