I ran a red light.

When I was going home in my dad's Focus, I was coming up on a light that appeared to be green. The sun was setting and was shining really brightly directly on the on the light. (Behind the car.) When I was coming up on it, it looked to be green and then it appeared to suddenly switch to red. I never even saw the yellow light becuase of the sun. When it switched to red, I was about 3 or 4 car lengths from the intersection and decided it was best to just go rather than to try to hit the brakes. I looked back, and there were cameras on the lights. I couldn't tell if my camera went off, becuase of the sun.

My questions is, what do I need to do to try to get out of a ticket if the camera did get me? (I don't really mind paying a ticket, but if my insurance rates increase AT ALL I have to sell the T/A.) I'm assuming that if I do get a ticket in the mail I should try to get driving school and go to court to explain my case. Is there anything I should do right away? I'm going to tell my dad about it, but should I do anything like send a letter to my own address via certified mail to explain exactly what happened and then not open the letter but bring it into court with me if I have to go?

i would call up and ask if they got it..if they did then explain the situation..people arenent perfect..we cant see through the glare of a sun..thats why I think those traffic cameras are gay

if you get the ticket, take traffic school. it should take the points right off ur record

Would traffic school, and getting the points taken off mean that our insurance company never finds out about it? What about when we switch companies? Do I have to report the ticket next time we switch isurance companies?

not sure about switching companies, but yes traffic school means no points means ur insurance has noooooo clue.

at least, thats how it is in IL

How did I forget that?

I've been looking all over for the light changers that ambulances and fire trucks got. Can't find one anywhere. I'd put it right next to my garage door opener.

Haha have you ever tried switching high/low beams really fast, it actually trips the light if you do it fast enough lawl.

As for the ticket, your insurance wont go up if a camera was involved. They send you the fine and pictures in the mail but yeah you can do traffic school instead, I was told you only get that opportunity once so enjoy that. Also if for some reason they didn't get a clear picture of the driver, which does happen, you can just tell them you had relatives in town and you don't know who was driving your car that day. They won't fine you if they can't prove you were driving...hope some of this shit helps

Yes. The points don't appear when you go to traffic school.

No. Trust me I live in Tempe and got a speeding ticket 4 years ago. Took it to traffic school. Switched car insurance the next year. It never showed anywhere. Be prepared to pay at least $122 for traffic school. I say at least cuz it may have went up.
