I pissed off an immigrant family

So here is the set up I'm at a baseball game on July 4th and after the game there was a hugh fireworks show. I haven't had anything to drink because it's DUI city in my town. I'm watch the show with some of my Marine buddies. One guy says, "Damn it's like I'm back in Baghdad!" and he gets a laugh from the people sitting close. My other buddy said "This is the last thing those Arabs see as we flashbang the room!" and gets another laugh. I chime in, "Look not all Arabs are terrorist..... but all the terrorist we catch are Arab." And a middle-eastern family stood up with there kids, took a hard look at me, and left. I felt bad

Was that rasict or historically correct?

That's not racist, that's profiling. There is a difference. Now if you said, hey there's some now, lets get em! That would be racists.

It's no different than how other groups belonging to that of certain enemies of the state in years past have been stereotyped. Being Japanese in the Western U.S. during WWII scored you a one way bus ticket to "summer camp".

Whether it's politically correct or not, it's going to happen anyways; and in comparison, non-radical Muslims and other similar groups of people from the Middle East who are living in the states are being treated much better than they would have been in the past.

Edit: Racism is believing one race is better (or worse) than the others. Stereotyping is grouping commonly associated acts with an entire group of people. For example, if I said "All rappers are black", it wouldn't be racist, but although it's not true, it is a stereotype due to the fact that most rappers are black but there are some of other races.

Not rasict nor correct...just inappropriate and kinda sad.

Sounds like your buddies need more counciling.

I'd say your buddies comments were more offensive than yours. If they were gonna take offense and leave, I'm surprised it was your comments that did it.

I don't know how it is in other countries, but let's face it, in this country most of us do find humor in race jokes. Whether they're in good taste or not is often debatable, but we're only human and we find humor in tasteless jokes sometimes. If that family has never laughed at a stereotyped joke about another ethnicity then hey, they can be offended. But if they've laughed at a race joke before, then screw em they're hypocrites when it's about them...
