I love Texas, possible legislation for 85mph speed limit

I'm jealous. 65 on the interstates here and 55 on the other highways...needless to say there are a lot of tickets handed out. Also, there are still people that drive under the speed limits here.

I'm ok with our speed limits here for the most part. 65-70 on highways and interstates, 75 on most turnpikes. OHP typically won't even look at you unless you're doing 15+ over, unless it's crackdown time (quota). And if you read the paper, they almost always give warning as to when.

Yeah, it's 55 in the Atlanta, Macon, other metro areas here, and 65 or 70 outside those areas. Not too bad. 85 seems high, even if many people already do it. I'd drive 85, no problem, but as with so many of us, *I* know how to drive, but I'm not sure about the others around me going that fast...

You also have to think about the r-tards that don't maintain their cars...ball joint snaps at 85+ and it's game over for the average person that won't remain calm in a situation like that.

    I wouldn't mind 85, but I agree it's a bit excessive....but I would drive it....

and, as far as that goes, I think accidents would increase due to a greater difference of vehicle speed.........just because the speed limit is 85, it doesn't mean everyone would drive that fast..........it's bad enough the way it is now when people are driving 50-ish on the interstate with a 70 mph speed limit.........add 15 mph to that, and the situation worsens

I drove for 3 yrs on the autobahn in Germany and loved it. This would be a much welcome but don't see it happening because of various BS groups that would go after it. MADD/Auto Insurer/Envior wackos

    Good Luck

Also they have 6 months drivers training that everyone must take prior to receiving a license. It also included basic first aid. Some of the rules were you could not stay in the left lane. It is for passing only. If caught you faced a stiff fine. And they (ppl) would call you in if you kept riding in the left lane.

You also have to factor in the people who will always drive 5 to 10 over. Now you're talking 90-95 mph....that is very scary to me. 16yr old girl driving with her knee while texting, cruise set to 95......

Yeah there is a much different mentality on the Autobahn, mostly more mature about the driving. Some folks here would lack that maturity...

Would people really be driving at 5-10 over if the speed limit was 85?

I doubt that would be the case and I doubt most of the shit boxes on the road can maintain 95 comfortably...

Without a doubt they would. There are certainly people out there who will go over the limit, no matter what the limit is.

Not only that - they have a 'system' over there - people understand that style of highway system, and respect it as far as I can tell.

Here, yes, they do it anyway, and some I just don't know how the wheels haven't fallen off.... I can be driving 80 down the highway (in a 70 zone), and get passed several times like I'm standing still.

Im all for higher legal speeds. I find myself doing 80-85 all the time when on the highway when possible.

That's fine, except the ones that can't drive tend to take out some of the ones that can, too...

I didnt ever vote for him... how does a country vote for POTUS from IL, when everyone knows how bad IL politics are. IL was best when ran by the mob.

I travel out west to weatherford for school and an 85 limit would be amazing.
