I have a huge respect for Ice Road Truckers

Man those guys have balls of steel. Talk about a scary, dangerous and lonely job.

Watching it right now, half focused. I'm afriad for these poor guys, I'd FREAK OUT if i face what they did all by myself. WHen it comes to their job yes I AM A PUSSY! They were showing how the divers dive for these guys when they fall through.

i dont see why its so intimidating.... youre in warm cozy truck cab where if sopmehting breaks down someone is at most two hours behind you and then he'll find you... and its not like they fall through the ice often

If you break down and dont move the truck drops right through. They have to always keep moving, and they have to stay at a steady speed. If the engine breaks down, goodbye heat. Night driving? whiteouts? -50 temps? theres cracks all over the ice. they carry loads that are 33,000 lbs

the ice cracks under that load. theres still water underthere, its not frozen completely. the truck falls and then the ice freezes over it. some of those trucks drop 300ft.

i'd have to look up the figures. But they talked to one of the divers and i think he said he pulled 39 corpses not sure the time span.

they were sayin that the heat from the truck would melt the top of the ice leading it to crack and that that would weaken the ice under the truck and the truck would fall through.

then they said that they have to slow down to a crawl when two trucks approach each other in opposite directions on the road cause of the waves under the ice that move with the truck in the same direction. if they didn't the waves would meet under the place where the trucks meet and buckle the ice causing both of the trucks to go under.

then there's the ever shifting and cracking ice.

and last week the one guy had his air line on his brakes start leaking which wasn't good because if he couldn't control the leak or get to his destination quickly the air lines would freeze up and he'd lose his air brakes completely.

i didn't like the one time i went out on the ice with one of my buddies in his truck...there's no way in hell that i'd ever get in a semi out on that lake up there.

The job pays a lot because it is so high risk.
It is not an easy job driving in those conditions, and the Stress level is incredible.

It is a fun show to watch.

I would still rather be a driver of the truck then the Plow!!

Why don't they make a removable hatch like they have on Jets, the guy could hit eject and fly clear of the hole. The could have survival equipment on the seat for when they would land..

thats a fantastic worthwhile idea. as the ice crack and the truck goes, fuckin hit that button and shoot out the truck. its worth consideration if anything. good thinking

hell I want to do that to the passanger seat on my TA. That way when someone in the passenger seat starts pissing me off I can launch their ass. I just want the t top on that side to be hinged cause I couldnt afford to keep replacing my t top.
