I got a ticket for running a red light on.......
bicycle!!!!!!!!!
I usually ride my bike to work, i like to wake up a little late and i get to avoid the traffic. So it was monday morning and i had duty, i left my house at about 6:30 and when riding on my little 7 mile pump. Well i am close to my base and i get caught up at a read light.....i wait. I look around, nobody in sight. Then the light turns green for cars to turn left, still nobody and i am about to be late for work, so i just pedal my way across the street when all of a sudden i hear it........am i getting pulled over???????? Yes i was, i could not believe it. He came out and asked me did i see the light??? Yes i did, i then made the mistake by telling this guy i was going to be late for work and guess what he took that into consideration when he took over 15 minutes to write me a ticket. He even asked me to step off of my bike?????? WTF! Am i going to go on a high speed chase with the thing???????
So here i am, standing by my bike with a cop car behind me with lights flashing, how embarassing. Of course cars had to drive by. Seriously who pulls a bike over especially when there is nobody around, was he that bored? That totally messed up my morning, at least he didn't smell my breath because i would have had a DUI too...........

That's gotta be the funniest thing I've read all day. So I am guessing from the "Base" part of your story that you are military? AND he didn't even give you a break??

so there you are in uniform standing next to your bike with a cop behind you with the lights on, i'd fight it and say it was an insult to your service, and claim that pedestrians always have the right of way
total bullshit

technically all bicyclists have to follow the same rule as the rest of the motorists because you share the road. I highly doubt that you will get any points, but fight it in court anyways.

i was not in my uniform, it would not have helped. San diego is a big military town and that doesn't really give us a good reputation down here.
i will do my best to fight this.

So you actually stopped on your bicycle?!? They've tried to pull me over twice down here at the school on my bike....both times for trying to ride a wheelie down the sidewalk. I'd never stop and have to pay a ticket when I could just take off between some buildings or something.

Why waste your time fighting it, you are guilty. Pay the damn thing and move on. If you had been sitting in a car at a red light and went through the intersection even though no one was coming, you would be ticketed. There is no difference.

So you run a red light. And are mad you got a ticket? So in San Diego MCRD ? Pendelton? A red light is green when nobody is around? Cool I will have to move there so I can run a red light.
