I bet Mobil1 is pissed off

Scroll down to "controversy"...they made the Wikipedia for going Dino basestocks....

    [edit] Mobil 1

Mobil 1 was introduced in 1974. In 2002 Mobil 1 introduced "supersyn" anti-wear technology, followed by Mobil 1 Extended Performance in 2005 which increased the use of this technology further.

    Controversy
In 2006, the results of a gas chromatography test on Mobil 1 EP 5w-30 were posted by an industry expert on the popular motor oil discussion website BITOG. It showed the oil to be primarily composed of a less expensive, Group III hydroprocessed mineral oil. Until this time, Mobil 1 was believed to be a true synthetic, utilizing a Group IV (PAO) basestock. The release of this information has led to a backlash against ExxonMobil's lubricant products in many automotive communities. Ironically, in 1999, Mobil fought Castrol's change in formulation to a Group III basestock in motor oils being marketed as fully synthetic. Mobil claimed that Castrol was decieving their customer base, while degrading their products. The National Advertising Division of the Council of Better Business Bureaus eventually ruled that Castrol could continue to market their Syntec line as a fully synthetic motor oil. ExxonMobil currently refuses to comment on the primary basestock of their Mobil 1 series of oils.

Your not hurting your cars with Mobil1. Just paying their shareholders for a lesser product. Mobil1 is a good oil. "Good" is the keyword here. They are just being disingenuous about their product and charging out the wazoo for a GroupIII oil.
Many oils have better add packs and are returning much better UOA's than Mobil1 for sure. Pennzoil Platinum is a great oil. $19.95 for a 5 quart jug yesterday at Wal"I'm working for poverty wages"Mart.
Some "better" oils...for the same or lesser amount of money....
Amsoil/Castrol Syn/Pennzoil Platinum/Schaeffers/Valvoline Racing/VP Racing Oils/ to name a few that I feel are better oil than Mobil1 when it comes to protection/cleaning/TBN......I see in this morning paper Pennzoil Platinum is $1.99qt after rebate at Pep Boys...I saw Castrol Syn at AutoZone the other day for $2.99 per quart. I look for the "sales"....on great oils......try and find a Mobil1 sale.
And to answer your question. Right now I have...
    Mercedes Amsoil 5-40 Euro
    Pontiac G6 Pennzoil Platinum 5-30
04 GTO Royal Purple Racing 41
    Dodge R/T Valvoline Racing 30
Corvette is getting its Auto RX clean so it has Castrol GTX 10-30 right now but will go on Shaeffers 10-30 after the rinse phase is complete.
    Lawnmower has Amsoil 5-30

I am sure that they are pissed that the gurus have exposed them.

I really hope they go back to the Group IV (PAO) basestock before their rep is ruined forever....

Thanks Sarge. I only use Mobil 1 in my 2000 SS Camaro. Is the Castrol 0w-30 worth the extra dough?

    Amsoil in the lawnmower, awesome!

Problem with the GC 0-30 is finding it. They discountinued it. I'd go Pennzoil Platinum for a much better oil and protection man...

Well the chemistry of different oils often work against one another. One may have high ZDDP and one high Moly and another may have a chemical makeup that doesnt allow them to adhere or do their job ....It isn't a good idea....
