Huge poker question.
Alright, my step dad played poker tonight with his golf league. His hand was dealt an Ace high Straight. The game was played with the wild cards of 5 and 10. He went all in on this amazing deal. Some other guy goes all in and puts down 5 of a kind???? wins the game. My step dad was so pissed he left golf early i think. Anyone out their that knows poker good please help me out.

"I say, trevor, I think you are bluffing"
"tallyho mitchell, I have gone all in"
"I shall bet you my finest graphite clubs that my ace high straight will defeat whatever you have"
"drat, it appears an ace high straight defeats my five of a kind. or not. unhand those clubs"
"im going home, you underhanded assholes. Good day."
hahaha

I would gander to say that 5 of a kind is not a legal hand. At best he had 4 of a kind 5 high. Anyway, wouldn't matter as 4 of a kind still beats a straight Ace high.

I play poker all the time. In fact, I just came home from playin at the casino. And you can play two ways.
1.)If you are playing with wilds and one eyed jacks etc., then the players must agree on what is and what is not a hand before they start playing. So this question does not come up.
or.
2.) The other way to play with wilds and one eyed jacks is to play by the rules. This way players won't have any questions on what is or isn't a hand. And it will eliminate the five of a kind hand etc. Most of the time, when people play with wilds etc., they use this method of rules................ Straight flush > four of a kind > full house > flush > straight > three of a kind > two pair > pair > high card.

You can play either way, that's the whole point. But the players have to decide on which way the are going to play.

not a cool deal for your dad.........but you can play either way, If dealing with multiple wild cards, then I usually play that you can have as many of a kind as is possible.......fwiw

i've played a lot of poker in my day.
The problem is, when you call 5 and 10's wild, that's a LOT of wild cards. Meaning, an Ace-high straight, while a good hand, is nowhere near one of the best. With that many wild cards, you better have at least a full house, four of a kind or a straight flush.
It all depends on the other guy of course what he has showing. If I have my Ace high straight and I'm looking at a possible 5 of a kind, I have to realize that with all those wild cards, good chance he wins it. So calling with that straight looking at five of a kind? I'm not surprised at all he lost.

5 of a kind os gay, if you are playing for $$$ than you need to play 100% by the rules, which means no 5 of a kind

playing with wild cards is fucking lame
and it doesnt matter if his 5 of a kind wont hold up because 4 of a kind > a straight
