I got my wife a Nikon d5100 for Christmas. Not sure that should have been her first to learn on but is looking at a class to learn the basics.

I used a Fuji A345 point and shoot for a few years, then my Canon SX120 point and shoot and now I've been using Canon Rebel T3i.

I try to remember to take pictures while I am in the woods or anywhere outdoors really but at some point I always forget there is a camera hanging from my neck.

    Nice pictures.

I recently got this camera for my first DSLR. I also got the "for dummies" book specifically for this camera. The damn book is over 300 pages long

Nikon/Canon it's like the Ford/Chevrolet rival ..... I happen to be of Chevrolet heritage, my Dad spent 33 years at General Motors brake plant called Delco Moraine...I also happen to be a Canon guy due to familiarity with their controls.
