    htc hero question

looking at getting a new phone and i kinda have my eye on the htc hero through alltel. i do have a question on it though.

is it capable of opening and viewing things such as word and pdf documents? i would like to use it for emergency e-mail checking and viewing of meeting documents and need to know if these things can be done.

I've had one for a year now. It's my first "smart" phone, sorry I'm not that techie. So here is the review.

    Pros
    -nice size
    -very easy to personalize
    -plenty of apps
    -easy to use fuctions
-full bars just about everywhere (sprint)
-updates fixed most of the problems
-speak to google function is awesome and quick
    -web is fast
    -video is good

    Cons
-I dont like the texting, buttons too small for my 3x hands
    -texting is a bit slow
    -Nav is a little slow
-need a app (free price) help save the battery
-need a app (free price) to delete texts
-vibration mode is very weak (inbfgayjoke)
-the phone fuction sucks, very grainy and distant

    8/10

The Hero is being phased out and is nearing its EOL just so you know. I have a Moment and its in the same category, probably expect its last software maintenance update by years end before its phased out and replaced with a new phone. It will still work past its end of life, but there wont be the total support and periodic updates.

That said, you can view pdf's for sure, adobe has a app for it that I use. Not 100% on word documents, but I would guess there is an app that would do it if the phone doesnt already. Email will be no problem.

found out last nite that a guy i work with has a hero and was showing it to me. it can do word and pdf docs.

didn't know that it was towards the end of it's service life though. the d-bag salesman said that it just came out a few months back. i guess a few months for him is a year.

i hate getting a new phone. just as i get one something better comes out...but i don't like paying outrageously high prices for a phone that i'll get rid of in another 2 years. plus alltel is changing over to element mobile so all the blackberry's that they carry won't be supported on the new network so i can't really go with a blackberry...plus i don't like the size of the damned things.

motherfucker...and the hero was a decent sized phone and seemed pretty good for $180 up front and $100 back on rebate.

okay it's the hero 2.1 that i'm looking at...the updated version that came out early in 2010.

it says something about it not being upgraded to the android 2.2 system. looks like i'm gonna have to go down to my carrier and start asking some questions...again.

Yes it can. Tho I have the Moment, which is based on the same platform, you can use word, power point, excel and pdf. This feature is called Documents to Go and it will cost you maybe $30 now (i got it when it was promo'd at $15) tho but I found that it was well worth it when you need to make and view things on the go. To properly get it you have to download the trial version first then pay.
