How much oil does your LS1 burn?
between oil changes
Looks like mine burns between a quart-quart and a half to 3k miles.
The car has about 78k miles on it and I wanted to know what is considered "normal" for the LS1.Last edited by BlueBomber; 10-21-2007 at 10:16 PM.

Couple of things here.
What brand and weight of oil are you running?
What modifications you done to that motor?
What is your driving style?

Number one cause of a LSX motor burning oil is dirty ring packs. Number 2 cause is utilizing oil that is too thin like Mobil1 5-30.
Every 25K miles AutoRX them bad boys and watch that motor wake up. Use a quality 10-30.

Not an LS1, but almost 2 quarts after 2800 miles.

k here we go
last oil change was m1 10w30
there are no modifications to the motor
as for driving style, im 18 so on the weekends it gets played with a little but i dont beat the shit out of it on a daily basis and I always give the engine a good minute in the morning to warm up. Hope I got all the questions

OK...lets fix this kids car if we can.....
So its costing you about $9 bucks every 3K for oil being burnt. Aint good for your top end either....I bet your intake/TB is oily as hell......none of it good. I doubt any of this is about your valves....so here we go.....
Go get 1 bottle of this stuff from this web site. http://www.auto-rx.com/pages/heavy_oil_burning.html
Use Castrol GTX or Pennzoil Yellow Bottle dino oil and a NAPA or a AC Delco filter.
Run the Auto RX cleaning and rinse phase as instructed.
After the rinse phase....drop in Pennzoil Platinum 10-30 and a NAPA Gold filter.

Pewter- 2001 Camaro Z28 M6
its normal for performance engines to burn oil. Its nothing to worry about it you are a quart low at 3K miles, especially if you drive the car hard. Just watch the oil level and pressure.
my 2001 ls1 has 110,xxx hard earned miles on. I race it all the time and bought it brand new. The car has burned oil since the day I drove it home.
People that bitch about burning oil, valvetrain sewing machine noise, clutch chatter, brake noise, are people that have no right owning a performance car.
All the noises listed above are normal, unless they are extreme, then you may have an issue.
Also LSx engines are known to NOT LEAK, unlike lt1 that piss oil out like a drunk college girl on nickel night. Lt1 are notorious to leak oil shortly after leaving the factory, compliments to the black bead of RTV on the front and back of the intake.

I let go of the transbrake button at 4000rpm...shift points are at 6900/7200 RPM.
I dont burn a drop. My ring packs and cylinder pressure are perfect. I have no PCV but have a vacuum vented situation It is not normal to burn oil. It is accepted by some as normal. Doesnt make it normal.
