How long are your shifts?
and how consistent are they?
i work at a hospital, 8 hour rotations, 7-3, 3-11, 11-7.
A month ago, my 8's kept getting canceled. But 3 of my last 8's, they've asked me to stay and work a double, making it 16. so my last check was $308 after taxes...this check might break $800.
I make $10 base, 15% shift diff. i get $25 extra to work a double, as incentive. and time and a half OT.
so ive had 3 shifts that i got incentive for..all on 11.50 shifts...making me a little over 15 an hour. and another shift of time and a half, at 17.25.
So for me, when i show up for work, I can make anywhere from $75, to $225, and work anywhere from 20 minutes, to 17 hours

2000 Grand Prix GTP- 2000 Trans Am WS6 M6
Main Job: Three 8-Hour shifts...0700-1500, 1500-2300, 2300-0700...I work the 1500-2300 shift five days out of the week, usually Tuesday to Saturday.
Second Job: Not shift work, you can pick your hours, as long as you do at least eight hours and start at 0600. So, I try to work at least 3 days during the week and work from 0600 to 1500...makes for some nice 17 hours days.
Both jobs are at the same place, so I can literally leave one job and be at the next one in less than five minutes.

I worked 61 hours last week. I work on commission/by the load (gasoline hauling). Today I worked 12.5 hrs. Wednesday I worked 13.5. I average about $20 an hour straight time. We are not allowed to work over 14hrs straight without a 8hr (or 12?) break by federal law. They tried to call me in on Friday (My day off + Thur.) I told them they were HIGH. We are also not allowed to work over 70hrs in 8 days without a 24 hours off in between. Then it all goes back to 0.
It is exactly as confusing but not as bad as it sounds until . . . . the tourist season. Then it's 60 hours every week for 5 months. Ugh.We also get bonus's depending on job performance. I usually start at 5p and work till whenever.
