How to load 120' of guardrail into a Suburban.

This accident Happened north of Deer Lodge, Montant on I-90. The driver was appx 22 year old guy heading east to College. He had left central Washington early in the morning. He fell asleep at the wheel and drifted off the shoulder hitting the end of the section of guard rail.

The guard rail came through the right headlight, engine compartment, firewall, glove box, passenger seat, rear seat and exited out the driver’s side rear window. That is 120 LF of guard rail that threaded through the suburban.

No passengers and the driver was not injured.

This is a reminder to all about NOT driving when you shouldn’t be behind the wheel (drinking, texting, distracted or just plain tired).

    Wow!

I once displaced 4 feet of guard rail when I struck the 4x post with the quarter panel after spinning out on a mountain road.

Lous can verify this as I showed him the pix of the damage...

I used to install guradrail for a living and that did not have a proper end on it or it would have never entered the vehicle, good thing he was by his self.

Thank you for that info, I was going to ask why the end wasn't angled away from traffic so that wouldn't have happened.

Why is there guard rail there anyways?? That ditch doesn't look bad.

In Iowa following some fatal accidents where cars went into on coming traffic, they have been stringing cable between i-80, but it wouldn't be able to do that.

At least it wasn't the old style Ibeam post and 2-row cable guardrails. I call that stuff caropener guardrail. It's wicked when a vehicle gets tangled up in that stuff.

Usually the bury the end in the ground to make a ramp. Would have made it impossible. And what's with all the wood posts? Round here wood posts are usually only on the first few so it has some give if you hit there.

My brother hit one of those string cable guardrails. Besides all the body damage there was this neat pattern in the paint up the A-pillar caused by steel cable raping the car.

This makes me laugh because it's pretty much true.

My brothers first Jetta: He loses control on highway, totals it, dad pissed because he paid for it.

My brothers second Jetta: I'm driving it and am involved in an accident which totals it, insurance pays my dad for more than he bought the car for, which my dad is pleased about cause my bro wasn't paying him back for it

    Bro: mad
    Dad: everything-went-better-than-expected.jpg
    Me: indifferently lulzing
