How to Kill Bears?
So, I'm planning a trip to the Cascade Mountain wilderness in Washington for early this summer. That's bear country, so I've been looking in to what guns I should bring for bear protection.
I do some internet research, and read some shit on some forums. I conclude that I need a .45. I was going to get a 1911 Colt copy. So I head on over to the gun store and the guy asked me why I needed a gun. I tell him and he says, "Shit son, a .45 'll just piss off a dayum bear." So I ask him what he recommends. A smile forms on his face, and he walks me over to this son of a bitch.
I nearly shit myself when I saw how big it is. The picture does not do it justice. When he handed it to me I expected my arm to be ripped off, however it was quite light for it's immense size. The bullets were literally as big as my pinky. It's a .460 caliber. The whole kit costs about a grand, and that's pretty fucking pricey.
Does anyone have any personal experience in dealing with bears; and can lend me advice about which firearms I should purchase?
I personally enjoy this.
With a big ol slug.
Keep in mind that this is bear defense, not offense haha.

There are two reasons I wouldn't bring bear spray. 1) Because I'd feel like the biggest fucking pussy in the history of the world. and 2) Because I certainly don't trust it.
I'm looking for the most practical gun too.
I like the Mossberg shotty because it will have multiple uses, but I don't know if it's good for bears.
A .45 copy is reliable and very cheap, but again I don't know if it's going to stop a bear.
The .50 Desert Eagle, or .44, or .357 mag is way too pricey, and flashy, in my opinion.

.44 magnum! You want something small that you can keep strapped on you at all times. If approached by a bear you're not going to have time to go get a gun out of a case.
Just don't leave any food laying around your tents and they should leave you alone.
After a heavy night of tequilla and beer bongs on a camping trip with my buddies up here we had a young grizzly ransack our site. We all passed out with cheeseburgers still on the grill, food on the picnic table, and beers laying all around. Apparently bears really like Bud Light. Luckily for us there was so much food that it didnt mess with the tents. When I asked my girlfriend where the bear spray was she told me it was in her lawn chair out by the fire (F################CK!) hahaha All the bear left us was a huge mess and a giant steaming pile in front of the tent. Lesson learned!

Huge ass grizzly bear, one of largest ever shot. Backed him with a .338 winchester magnum. So that gun salesman was full of shit. Remember, you will meet black bears, smaller then grizzlys. Just get something that won't jam, personally if it were me, I'd take a cattle prod. Long ones have a three foot reach at least, plus length of your arm. And trust me, one shock and that thing will BOLT. Also, you won't have to deal with dnr pricks like you would if you killed one.
