How has the Mustang been able to stay.....
A sales sensation and maintain it's popularity since 1964.5? You know the new mustang is everywhere in my work parking garage i must pass 50 mustangs a day....many are the new 2015 model......This question was inspired by the new muscle car history book i have been reading. It's the only car that has been in production since then uninterrupted....so many other cars have fell by the way side.....over the years........thoughts.......

Like the Vette is to Chevy the Mustang is to Ford. It's their it car, their stable, well besides trucks.
Plus it's always been targeted towards women which outnumbers us.http://www.ls1.com/forums/f7/my-6-liter-build-174257/

Even when it was a performance underdog it's sold well. It's Ford's top dog for the most part. So they throw all the cool at it that they can. I have recently had a 2016 camaro SS and a 2016 mustang GT as rentals. The current gen GT is a dog compared to the SS. It has better visibility, and that's about it. Otherwise it gets crushed everywhere. Just got my car and driver with this year's lightning lap results. The camaro 1LE was faster around the track than a mustang GT. The V6 1LE

It has a cult following like no other. There are 2 weeks a year we won't go to our place at Myrtle Beach and Mustang week is one of them. They swarm the area and mass stupidity follows. The YouTube videos of everyone pulling out and wrecking are very common during that week. I've heard it's gotten better with stronger police presence but after witnessing it so many times I don't risk it.
I've been to the fbody beach bash down there and just doesn't even come close to comparing last I heard they were just about ready to give up on it.
Every review I've seen comparing the newest models is the same the Camaro beats the Mustang out in every way except for the visibility and looks of the car in some cases. But the looks are subjective. I will say the gt350 looks great to me but the ss 1le beats it around track you have move up to the 350r a 70k dollar car to beat the 1le. Hell the 2017 1le beats a M4 GTS a 130k dollar car on one of the tracks.
I think it all comes down to that I'm going to buy a mustang even if a focus (the new rs was faster in the Car and Driver test) is faster then it following of theirs.Mods - Lid, Skip Shift Eliminator, MGW shifter, UMI SFCs, Founders Lower Control Arms, Founders Panhard Bar, Founders Adj. Besides...I have never seen nor heard of anyone putting a FORD motor in a Chevy car. Never....It has always been a SBC or now a days a LSx.
Even given that the Coyote motors are a huge improvement over past yrs.

Ford has always done more marketing and promoting of the Mustang than GM did for the Camaro and Firebird/Trans Am, especially outside of the auto-enthusaist crowd. If a product doesnt cross a persons mind when they use thier heuristics to make a decision, it wont get bought.
Its also pretty much been a solo stable holder much of its life at Ford, or at least sales and advertising wise. Does anyone remember the 79 to mid eighties Capri's? Most people who were in the market didnt even know Mercury made the Capri (much less tell the difference). GM paired 2 F cars for 35 years, and essentially split the marketing on two products.Last edited by Whamhammer; 09-15-2016 at 10:30 AM.

Having recently driven both, here's my thoughts on the coyote. It loves to rev and makes great power up high in the band. It needs a lot of gear though, because it's fairly anemic in the lower rev range, especially when compared to an LT1 in the new camaro. If you get an auto GT with the smaller rear gear (such as my rental had) it actually feels like a dog. You really have to prod it to get moving fast, whereas a new camaro has all kinds of low and midrange power, which make it a blast around town, even at part throttle.
I will admit that I'm intrigued by the new gt350 engine though. Sound aside (it's love it or hate it), the rev range is amazing, and it would probabLy be fun as hell to wind out blasting through some canyons. I hope I get a chance to drive one.
