    Home owner protection

What would be a good handgun for "homeowner" protection.

I want to make an invetment in one. I live in a pretty safe area, just thinking how crazy the world is getting though.

Shotgun: 12 ga. semi-automatic shotgun, and cut the barrel down short for maximum pleasure extended to the late night uninvited guest(s)...

Handgun: Springfield XD 45 ACP high capacity handgun, hold 13-15 rounds in the clip i believe...

Pump shotgun is the standard, such as a Remington 870 with a 20" barrel.

Handgun: Auto or Revolver? Which is your preference? Depends on the amount of cash you want to spend. A Makarov in 9x18 cal is a excellent inexpensive auto for around $200.00. The Springfield Xd's, HK, CZ, Kahr, and Glock etc are generally reliable weapons, It depends on your budget. Sig Sauer P239 is my carry weapon of choice.

A shotgun(either a remington 870 or a mossberg 500) certainly will do for self-defense, but be aware that a shotty will stick out in front of you giving the bad guy a better chance to grab your gun as you come around a corner. the best handgun? the most powerful one you can shoot accurately. go to a gun range and rent a .38, then a 9mm, then a .40, .357, .45, etc. and go with the most powerful one that you can reliably hit the target with. 2 hits with a .38 beats 7 misses with a .45.

Revolvers are more reliable than autos but hold less rounds. However, if you experience any kind of failure with a revolver, you are unlikely to fix it without tools. This is not good in a self-defense situation. The odds of this happening are very slim but be aware that it can happen Autos on the other hand hold more ammo but are more prone to failures, usually failures to feed or eject. Usually tapping the magazine to make sure it's seated properly and racking the slide to clear the jam will get you going again. If you go with a revolver i would recommend getting a Smith and Wesson or a Ruger. If you go with an automatic, i would recommend a Glock. they're easy to shoot, reliable, and easy to maintain.

Be aware of your target and what's behind it. Handgun rounds and shotgun pellets will go through all the walls of your house unless they hit a pipe, stud, or something else in the wall. You'd feel like complete shit if you took a shot at a burglar and it went through the wall and hit your wife/kid(s). Remember the four basic rules of gun safety:
    1. Every gun is loaded
    2. Don't point your gun at anything you don't want to destroy(good muzzle discipline)
    3. Keep your finger off the trigger until you are on target
    4. Know your target and what is behind it

    Stay safe and happy shooting!

First living in R.I. i would check gun laws to see what you can even get. I dont wanna start anything but being on the East coast, its mainly democratic and liberal. My point?......Very very very tough gun laws and a bunch of flaming hoops to go thought to get permits for weapon.(friends and family have had to go though this bs) Thats why we moved to ohio. I have a Mossberg 500 12ga, dad has a remington 870.....and the racking of a shell does put chills into intruders......dad had to load only one time.....but it worked. Now, we are known as the crazy loaded people on the street. I love my 9mm glock myself.....but buckshot owns. One shot and thats it.
    High revving TPI........wait oxymoron?

shotguns are good, i think i would go for a springfield xd .40 or .45... they are great weapong and in most cases you can pick up a package deal for around $500.

also something that would be excellent, there is a company that makes a .410 revolver 8 shot i think. load that up with
3" buckshot and you have a very powerful maneuverable weapon

20 ga with buckshot will leave a mark lol. Plus the 20 ga wont kick as hard letting you recover faster to lock on to target faster.(less recoil) My 12ga is lovely though......does the trick. Its killed enough to let me know its a good gun.

Nothing like the sound of a .50 cal sniper rifle locking and loading. 1 shot, 1 kill.

Shotgun with a 18.5" barrel or a .45 will do nicely. If you want an investment piece, look at Kimber, STI, Springfield or Wilson Combat if you REALLY want to spend some dough

Glocks, or spingfield xd in .40 or .45 cal. If its mainly for home use I would go with a 4 or 5 inch barrell. The right rounds even with a .40 cal are a 98% 1 shot drop. If you buy a new glock or springfield you will have a rail on the front that you can mount a tactical flashlight. (i highly recommend) Most importantly, whatever you get be sure to practice practice practice, and know your gun very well so you have confidence. If you dont have any very close neighbors, i would recommend an Ak-47 (assualt rifle) with some 30 round mags, (you can get one for a little over $400) or you could always get a M4 (assualt rifle) but its hard to find one for under $600. The rifles with a few 30 round mags and a cheap case of 500 rounds will give you a hell of alot of confidence if you are really worried about the way the world is getting. No matter what you decide to get, please look into joining some pro-gun organizations such as the NRA to help protect our rights that are very much under attack by the UN and the Dems. If you have any questions feel free to PM me.

Any center fire rifle cartridge will result in EXTREME overpenetration inside the home. A 5.56mm or 7.62x39 will shoot through multiple walls.

most pistol calibers 9mm and above will go through all the interior walls of your house. know what you're shooting at and what's behind it.

also, don't get a shotgun with just a pistol grip. They hurt to shoot and you won't hit shit with them.
