Hiv / aids
Few days ago I found out someone I know contracted HIV. He was super sick in the hospital, nothing was working to cure his pneumonia. Blood work came back with HIV, possibly already AIDS. He had no idea. Infectious disease doctor isn't sure yet if this hasn't become full blown AIDS already.
This guy, who is actually part of my family through a marriage, lived a really hard life. All kinds of drugs and alcohol. He quit many times, but usually went back after a few months. He was starting to get his life back on track the last 8 months, and finds this out. Young guy too, late 20's.
I was, as was everyone else, completely blown away. Ive never known someone with HIV, and this just really opens your eyes.
For a newly single man such as myself, it makes it hard to wanna go out and play the field for awhile. Everyone needs to remember there are STDs and diseases that will never go away. HIV / AIDS is kinda joked about from time to time, I'm guilty of cracking a few jokes as well. Kinda different when someone you know has it though.
Just thought I would remind everyone to be super safe, and when in doubt... go without!

Worst part is he'll be alienated by everyone. He'll find out really soon who is true friends are that's for sure.

Sorry to hear it. But, hopefully, he won't have full blown AIDS. HIV can at least be managed.
And yes, when you're out there playing, you need to remember that if you're not careful, you could end up paying... with you life.

The infectious disease doctor said AIDS can be reversed into HIV. I think it takes some serious medication and treatment, plus absolute perfect living.
I had never heard of this and didn't think it was possible.

2002 Z28 A4 NBM- Sadly now demodded :(
You don't get HIV/AIDS from shaking hands or hugging someone. There has to be an exchange of bodily fluids invloved. In your friends case it may have been through intravenous drug use.

I maybe working at a mentail hospital in a few months or so, good chance if not care full you can catch shit with out sex or drug use. This could be the case with said victim, I know he does not have the greatest life. But point is you can catch shit from less obvious stuff.

"Health-care workers have on rare occasions become infected with HIV by being stuck with needles containing HIV-infected blood. A few have also become infected by HIV-infected blood getting into the bloodstream through an open cut, or splashing onto a mucous membrane (e.g. the eyes or the inside of the nose). There have been only a very few documented instances of patients acquiring HIV from an infected health-care worker. We have more information about healthcare workers and HIV infection."

Nope was not aware of that. I just been reading the stuff they gave me, as I have to pass some test before I can work there. But some of the materail is dated. I talked to other mentail heath techs, that you have to deal with clients who get out of control. That will spit on you, covered in blood, throw shit at you, and all kinda of other hazzards...
But my point was you can get infections not only from sex or drug use. Could be in a medical setting, a fight, or number of things. While the others is highly unlikely...

only way to get aids is through fluid transfer... kissing someone with aids while their gums are bleeding is one way... some one flinging blood or spitting on you won't transfer the virus... bottom of the line the virus needs to get into your blood stream with out contacting open air...

The virus is very very weak outside the body but once in the body becomes Darth Vader of viruses. Air kills it, light kills it, etc..... Sorry to hear about this Hi-Po, hope everything can become as good as one would expect.

This is sad news. He just needs to keep himself clean/safe from now on. If he does this, then he is cool.
