HELP....what is the BEST/CHEAPEST way to ship a T-56 transmission?
I have a T-56 transmission with crossmember and bellhousing, I need it shipped to Florida from Maryland. I was told by my local shipping depot that it has to be crated. I bought a Tremec for my mustang about a year ago and it came in a heavy duty box. Does anyone have any ideas or have done this in the past? I want it it arrive safe, but I'm not willing to pay $500 that the local shipping depot wanted. Any help would be appraciated.

Contact a freight company, and see what they say.
I have shipped out motors through CCX before. Just wrap them in shrink wrap, and use 4 cheap ratchet straps to tie it to a heavy duty skid. You should be able to ship it for around $200 I would think.
Do you know any over the road truckers? If so, have them take it as close as they can get it, and drop it off at a freight companies hub. This should save some money, as you would only have to pay for partial shipping, and a case of beer for the trucker.
Hope this helps.
