Help with taking down wall paper.

Anyone done it before? My uncle has offered to pay me to do it at one of his properties. From what I hear it's a pain but I would like to try and do this so I could make a few extra bucks. Anyone ever done it before? Tips? Tools? Let me know!

It's a royal pain in the ass; when we do it we just put water in a spray bottle and soak the heck out of the section you want to take down. Then get some kind of scraper and go at it. All the times I've done it, it never just came off in a strip. have fun

im in the same boat as you... i have been peeling wallpaper for the last few days. the best way to do it is get an iron, and heat up the section you are peeling and then go at it with the scraper... depending on the type of wall paper it is... there may be another layer of backing paper left on the wall... get some "poly peel" and mix it with water in a spray bottle... then soak the shit for about a minute and then it comes off very easily.

i hope your uncle pays well because it is a huge PITA lol

I'm a contractor, I do it all the time.

I use a spray bottle of dawn in hot water, soak thoroughly for awhile and if it has water based glue, it will peel off in wet sheets. Some if it is stubborn and requires using a high quality wall paper remover product. Areas that will not budge can be feathered with sheetrock mud, followed with primer. You can also paint over wallpaper if you use oil based kilz first. Good luck.

The difficulty varies widely....I've had some that peeled right off and others that required hours of work. For the more difficult jobs, DIF seemed to help out quite a bit after letting it soak in for a minute or 2.
