    Help Spend My Money

    Howdy folks.

Yup, it's that time again. Funds are looking good and I'm ready to do something else to the car now that the Procharger is paid off.

List of viable options (feel free to add other ideas/suggestions):
    - upgrading the rotors
    - new brake pads
    - Stainless steel brake lines
    - front/rear sway bars
    - M/T drag radials for the rear (street use)
    - Tick MC
    - Set of track dedicated wheels/tires (suggestions)
    - Powdercoat the calipers (color suggestions)

What would you do first? I do not have a budget per se, but I am not buying everything. I need something to do next winter as well...

Guess I should add current mods for any noobs not familiar.

    Suspension:
    - BMR Trak Pak (cross-member for the front mounting of the torque arm is welded into the sub-frame connectors)
    - BMR lower control arms
    - BMR weld-in 2 point sub-frame connectors
    - UMI on-car adjustable PHB
    - Strano springs
    - Koni 4/4 shocks

    Engine:
    - Valve springs
    - Hardened push rods
    - Procharger with all the amenities

    Drive-train:
    - Moser 9"
    - PST drive shaft
    - Spec stage 3+ clutch/flywheel
    - Hurst billet shifter
    - RPM stage IV T56

I think that sums it up.

I would do the braking system to be sure you can slow your car down quicker..if need be.

I have been looking at the R1 Concepts (Premium Cross-Drilled & Slotted) rotors with the Hawk HPS pads. They also sell the G2 caliper paint there as well. Probably going with red if I do buy paint. I would really like to get them powder-coated though as I think that will hold up longer than painting them with the off the shelf stuff.

Agree. All that power is great for get up and go-you should improve your brake setup to make sure the car stops in a hurry, too.

Wait......you prick. You cant afford to fly out east for a weekend but you can spend thousands on upgrades?

I vote for a few things.

    1. New brake lines. Yes, your car is stored inside but put some stainless ones on.
    2. A good set of rotors but I wouldnt get drilled and slotted. Just drilled. Slotted ones are known for cracking if you A. Dont break them in properly 2. If you dont actually get heat in them before hammering on them. Like at the end of a drag track. You WILL crack them in a short amount of time.
    3. Remove stock LS1 and put an iron block LQ block with a stroker crank, some real heads and a bosst cam with a FAST 102 intake/TB and a new tune. Make some real power.

I think most drilled rotors having cracking issues I have seen were due to poor design and many of those, if not all, did not have a chamfer on the drilled hole to relieve stress. No?

^^ This. I went with the R1 Concepts premium slotted rotors, Hawk HPS pads and Russell braided stainless lines. Huge improvement over what I had and the car stops much better with zero fade at the top of the track. Pretty sure you posted in this thread, but here are the pics: http://www.ls1.com/forums/f6/time-brake-upgrade-163483/

+1 speed is great as long as you can stop the car prior to hitting a wall at the end of the track

Perfect. No corrosion or issues of any kind. We probably have several hundred miles on the brakes now, even a little wet weather driving unfortunately.

Good to hear. I am pretty confident I'll be getting these. I am going to wait until Thanksgiving to see if any sales pop up.

    damn.....beat me to it.

I would do the brakes and if you're taking the car down for the winter have the calipers powder coated. I've used spray on caliper paint and brush on caliper paint. Both will get the job done and both hold up somewhat decently but neither holds a candle to powdercoating. If the car is going to be down anyhow you might as well just do it once. I'm sure someone local PC's and it's not really that expensive for calipers.

How hard is it to rebuild the caliper? I assume there is a decent rebuild kit out there?

i've never had any problems with my DD drilled and slotted rotors.......but then again the car has never been beaten on or braked on hard....so yeh...grain of salt. red for calipers, anything else looks tacky imo
