Do you have any experience on a bike...If not, I would look at sometihng a little different so you make it to getting your dream bike. Those can get you into some trouble at your age. Or any age for that matter.

Id suggest something lower then a 1000CC or your going to run into problems. Play w/ dirt bikes..as in ride one occasionaly? Insurance on that thing would be another killer, 18 yrs old w/ a superstreet bike....no way is that going to be cheap. Personally Id reconsider bikes..something around a 600CC or even lower if you have very little experience. When you get comfortable w/ a 600 then move up to a 750 or something bigger..take little baby steps to keep yourself from being 6' under. Sure you might be able to hand one..but thats your call.

take it from me, I have been riding street sport bikes for 13 years. NONE of the current sport bikes are good for you. I know this gets said all the time, but the riding dynamics are so different between dirt and street that you would be making a massive mistake.

The GSXR1000 is out of the question. This is a bike that can and will pull wheelies from 3rd gear down low. Most people that have been on the street for years are not ready for a full liter bike.

Another thought is that you are going to crash. Everybody crashes. Not if, but when. Statistically, it is in the second year of ownership. Why crash a brand new bike? Get something older, learn how to ride, then move up to something more current. I could type for hours about this, and I know that you have already made up your mind and you're going to get what you wnat anyway, but I have seen too many friends make this mistake and live...some of them anyway...to regret it. My brother lost the use of his legs, another friend is brain-dead, another friend had his right leg torn off of his body, I have had 3 people I know die and all 3 were closed caskets. Most of them were doing nothing illegal or out of control with the exception of the leg being torn from his body. The funny thing is that all the accidents could have been avoided by nothing more then having an experienced rider on the bike.

Dont they say there are 2 types of riders, the ones that have gone down and the ones that are going to go down. I agree w/ it. My dad went down on a goldwing a while back, and slid into a guard rail and took a good chunk out of his left leg. Lucky thats the only thing that happened. Im 20 and have already lost 2 friends due to bikes. Makes me think im silly for even wanting one.

Im assuming after the 2nd year people start getting more comfortable on the bike and becomming less scared, but then it bites them in the ass.

Well ive had quite a bit of experience with yamaha's and i grew up around them, all my friends had honda's and ive just always like the Yamahas better, and i think the new 07's are very nice pieces of machinery, there has been quite a bit of changes to the super bikes over the years. Read up on the links i gave you.

for me it would depend on what i could afford.

Both Bikes are very good, the R1 is obviosly faster, but cost more money, it just depends on what you can afford.

If this is your first Street bike I would start with the R6.

I like my cbr 600rr. It's nice bike and is comfortable for me. My friends ride R6's i don't like the feel of them. Go sit on a couple and see whats more comfortable to you.

Also i am one of those statistics i just dropped my about 3 weeks ago not doing anything dumb. I was turning out of a parking garage and the tire slid out when it made the transition for concrete to pavement.
