The majority of people did that when the CD format was introduced

I've read a lot of people's opinion that believe that there will be no winner in this war. They claim that by the time one technology comes out on top, it will be possible to download the videos directly from the Internet rather than having a physical medium. It does sound a bit extreme, but look at how far we've come in the last ten years with regards to transmission speeds.

When I first got into computers I remember connecting to BBS's @ 300 bps. Geez, my home now operates on a gigabit network.

It will still be a while before downloading HD material is viable. They sure don't have anything fast enough and cheap enough in my area that I want to spend time downloading a 40GB file and then not being able to play it on my TV with being able ot burn it on something or having a phsical disk plus enough HD space to keep movies on.

That kinda underscores the point of not buying either.

Personally, I think the difference between 480p and above is not a big deal, even on a large HDTV. And on a small HDTV, or a regular TV, the difference is meaningless.

So... I'm going to save my money.

Most people agree with you for that reason. I'm not so concerned about spending $500 on the "right" player, but I don't really want to build a library of hundreds of discs @ $30 each that are based on what will become defunct technology overnight.

I got direct tv HD and the movies on their HD channels don't look that much better than when i play them on my 360. There isn't a big jump quality wise here.

They only reason i want this bluray/hd war to be done with is so i can install a HD drive on my computer so i can use that extra storage space.

I've got mixed feelings on that topic. Just think of how much data you stand to lose if you unintentionally scuff a disc...

That aside, I'm with ya on the storage space issue!

TDK developed a special coating for the discs because of how close to the surface of the disc the information is written on to the disc so that scratches and scuffs wont be as big of an issue.

My guess is you have not seen true HD on a larger TV. Because there is a large difference between regular TV @ 480i
