have a motor question...
just wondering, how much money would it take to turn a stock LS1 engine into a 383 stroker motor built for nitrous....?
i have someone local willing to sell me a 383 stroker built for nitrous, motor can handle roughly a 250 shot. is selling for $8,000
can i do this cheaper with my own ls1 in the car already? or is this a good deal. he's gonna freshen it up before the sale with new rings and bearings....but just wondering if this is a good deal for $8,000 roughly.
thanks

How big of a shot? You can forge the bottom end of a LS1 for under $2K....

well, the upside to buying the motor would be to have my current motor as a backup incase something happens.
does creating a 383 really require work being done to the block itself, i thought the LS1 blocks were good to 1000hp in themselves, just the internals need to be upgraded (Crank, bearings, rods, rings, pistons and cylinder heads and valvetrain Etc Etc...)

no, not new, but he says he will freshen it up with new rings and bearings before the sale.....
not sure if its forged, supposedly, its built for nitrous, and can handle 250 no problem. runs 10.5's all motor no problem.
my only wqonder is...is he freshening it because there is an issue? dont see why youy'd wanna frshen up a motor unless it has issues.....

Unless this guy does all the work himself then I would be wary of it. Go buy a troubled/old ls1 for cheap. You just need the block anyway and you can get even a new one of those for cheap. Then have it built and keep your old motor. Pull off everything you need and you have a backup.
Fyi, got my new motor yesterday, you coming up to help the install????? BIG BIG Cubic Inches
