hacking into car computer to change mileage
anyone see that device for sale? I saw it on craigslist. out of curiousity I emailed him. he said it's $10,000. and can change the mileage of almost any GM car, and otehr brands (forget which).
it's a scary thought as I try to get another car with low mileage. i guess a carfax COULD show you teh true mileage, but carfax doesnt always show you nothing.

I agree it definately is a scary thing. But with today's computerized inspections, I think it is going to be hard to get away with frauds like that.

All the programmers can do this when they do a tune as well.
It has been happening for quite a while now, esp. with GM based trucks that the rig pigs up here drive the shit out of and roll back the miliage.
They are 2-3 year old but just bagged.

car fax sucks i bought my car knowing it was crashed before i owed it, and car fax didn't have any report on it. they only show a report if the accident was reported. they only showed prior owners, and a couple of factory recalls and repairs.

My odometer stopped working when I unplugged the transmission cable (to prevent the speedo from kicking in the rev limiter)... At the time it was set to 255 mph but with gearing and transmission change the rev limiter was licking in around 110 so I just unplugged it.
