guys: what do you decorate the home with?

well a few months ago I bought a home. I need some things around the house, but I have no style. Seems like things don't match. I do have some artwork on the walls, but I need those little things...knick nacks.

I do have a curio with die-cast's in the corner of my living room.

What I need is perhaps something else...duno what tho.

I'm on a somewhat limited budget. It seems like all the retail stores like Home Goods, have feminine/generic things. I'd rather stick to things a guy is into.

if you can, post a link or a photo to something interesting.

You could check out Summit Racing or Jegs. They have wall art for car guys. You could also check out Griot's Garage.

I built my home and did the sheetrock work and all the painting (except where you see runs....that is where a family member thought they were helping). It KILLS ME to put holes in the walls. I have no real issue hanging my mounts at the top of the steps but it actually kills me a little inside to hang pictures. Thus far I havent only put a few on the walls and in a 2500+ sq/ft home that is not a lot. lol

If I was you and you want some manly stuff I would actually look in to garage sales for pool table lights, maybe some of those bar mirrors with print on them, some oil signs (if you can find them), go with a retro but not an 80s retro style theme in your home. Something like the stuff you would find in the 60s/50s/70s.

One thing though.....if you have different motifs make sure they dont overlap in to the same rooms. Living rooms I would go pretty standard. Maybe ge a big mirror, some wall sconce lights. Either the candle ones or electric, either or. Another thing to look at are those old fashioned looking iron/copper quare things that you can hang and make shapes out of. Usually they are 1 foot by 1 foot but come in other sizes.

There is more but I am tired of typing. lol

Hobby Lobby, Bed Bath and Beyond and Garden Ridge have been selling artwork that is more towards a guys ideal of decorating. Seen an abstract painting of an old vette with on a stretch of RT 66. It was really pretty.

Also make gear head type clocks, I've seen those at Target and Walmart.

guys don't have knick-knacks, ..just clutter.

i'm w/ TLS Addict, ..i won't hang pictures, since i repaired and painted the walls - only in my "study", i reserve that for pictures/certificates/etc.

but i guess my central "kick kack" is a replica colt peacemaker on a litte stand above the fireplace mantle, and a horse-hair-styled bear artifact i bought from some indians near taos, NM.

I don't like holes in the walls either, but those peel and stick 3M things work great for stuff that isn't as heavy and it won't damage your walls.

Sounds like you have some cool stuff there boss. I will hang some pictures.

I am saving my NEXT home for actual decorating and what not. This one I plan to put ZERO money in to since I plan to move south anyway. Perhaps when I retire I will do this house....lol

Sorry I'm not allowed to decorate the house according to my wife. It seems Dallas Cowboy colors for MY office is not acceptable, nor is wall to wall pics/posters of Trans Ams or choppers allowed either. I don't know why?

I'm allowed to have a couple of models but only because they fit on the book shelves and my Military awards from my service (She picked the frames out)

Wife says I have not taste in color either.

Hey now, i'm a chick and I do not decorate my house in car stuff. ITs all for the garage. All though I am "considering" doing the "hallway" with some car related stuff.

And as for the garage, I fought my man tooth and nail to not hang the rebel flag in the garage. I lost.

    WAIT!!! "EDIT"

The top shelf of the china cabinet is devoted to my car stuff. The rest is my collection of crystal and wine glasses. Oppps.

For some reason, I like those big plants in the corner or something in a large pot. They are decorative and fake. They take up corner space that no one uses and break up the color.

I also like floor lamps in the corners.

Some malls have these poster stores, where you can find large and awesome paintings. Like a life size one of muhammed ali etc. or one of a football stadium you like. Those can take up a large wall. I personally went with a big ass american flag. The garage has large z28 and camaro banners.

A coffee table in front of the TV with a huge surround sound is functional, sounds nice, takes up more space.

You could go to a drag race and buy a used slick from a funny car or dragster and build your own coffee table.

One of the neater things I've seen around..

Dinosaur BBQ (biker bar) in Rochester NY has flattened beer bottle tops nailed to the window trim, completely covered, all the way around. Different tops, not all the same but with some repeats. Looks cool as hell though.
