Its probably one of the new reciever springfields. If it isnt then the date should be on the barrel when the charging handle on the bolt is pulled to the rear. Still a 800-1000 dollar rifle.

Red with Silver Stripes- 2002 Camaro SS LE
I wouldn't sell it unless you never plan on doing any more shooting. M1s are getting more valuable by the day, plus they are a ton of fun. I have a 1945 SA M1 Garand and it is my favorite gun. I wouldn't let it go for anything.
They are getting harder to find, if you get rid of it and want it back down the road...it might be hard to replace.1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS396 (Clone)

NO! DO NOT!!
I have two myself. One '42 4xx,xxx serial Springfield almost all original and a '54 4million serial H & R. These things go up in value sometimes up to 20% a year depending on rarity/condition, etc.
Look on the back of the receiver for the serial number and manufacturer and post it up. That should give more info on if you should keep it or not. The low serial ones can fetch a pretty penny!

That's a piece of history right there...how can you tell if it was used to kill nazis/japs? Is there a certain batch the military used?

5-43. DONT SELL IT FOR NOTHING.
Most rifles that were shipped overseas with the troops didnt come back.. If they did.. they most likely would have these signs would be Annealed Receivers(lead dipped) and other modifications.
Most likely it was used in training over here.
The military used everyone of them. UNLESS its the new reciever m-1s that came out about 1999. Springfield Armory started making them again because of high demand.
My uncle has about 10 WWII matching part numbers m-1s. He even has person items from John Garand himself.

Please PM me a price and I can sell it for you.
It all depends on you. If you can use the money and got a good deal on it in the first place I say turn it. I have seen many loose valuable guns when stuck moving into a apartment and being burglarized. I would rather get market value and have the funds then take the risk of it being wasted and another gun in the hands of a tweaker.
Do you see this stamped into the stock?Don't be afraid of the bottle!!! Be afraid of your tune!!!
