GTFIH if you know your shit about PS2's
Decided to kick it old school with playing some RPG's, and bring out my PS2. One of the games I KNOW that had decent graphics, mainly on the cut scenes, looks like SHIT. Ontop of looking like shit it takes the PS2 like 5-10 mins to actually start the game, and I can hear it keep trying to load. At first I thought it had something to do with playing it on a big screen, and even after adjusting the screen size it was all blockly. The game in question was Final Fantasy 8. I recalled something about blue/black bottom discs (like FF8) having to load more or something as opposed to the more "CD" like discs. I tried Gran Turismo 4 and BAM, perfect like I remembered and loaded right up. So I'm assuming it has something to do with the laser having a harder time reading the blue/black bottomed discs right? What do I need to do to fix it?

I figured there would be an easy/cheap fix for less than that. I mean the thing plays the other regular discs fine.
That's the word I was looking for besides blue/black bottomed discs lol. Yeah as I said above the GT4 (non-dual layered disc) played PERFECTLY on the big screen, but FF8 (dual layered) didn't.
Not really the answer I was looking for lol. Especially since I just bought a new xbox 360 I'm not looking to buy a ps3 now (wasn't that only certain models, and not new ones now??).

heres a story that may help....
on christmas day, my dad got a new game for his wii. It was a dual layer disc and it wouldnt play. but his other games would. i had to take the wii apart to clean the lens, after that it worked like a charm. maybe you can do the same to the ps2.

I had the same problem on my PS2 with FF8 also. I gave up on it and got a PS1 off Ebay. Picture was much better. Speaking of the game, it is under rated and is freaking legendary.

Lens is dirty or needs to be adjusted. Soon itll stop reading discs. Clean it, readjust the height and youll be good to go. The graphics just arent as good as new video games, i realized this playing FF8 on the ps3 when i downloaded it.
