    GT500 Now 500bhp!

Apologies if this is a repost, but it got me all excited. Too bad I'll not be able to afford one :-(

Edit: not trying to cause trouble. I just click on the wrong bookmark (ls1 AAG when I meant to pick corral lounge). Maybe some people will like it anyway.

Those things only have a 8.4 compression?
Man that's low for a supercharged 500hp engine.

Ford's trying to hone in on Z06 territory, no?

It'll need to spend some time at Jenny Craig for that, but it's still impressive.

Who cares how much power it makes?? If it's like any other ford, it will "claim 500" but will only see 400 on the dyno, weigh in at 4000lbs and only run high 12's.........POOP!!! Plus it will cost, w/ dealer markup in the 45-50K range....BARF.

CASE AND POINT: I have personally seen an 05 GT 5 speed dyno 245rwhp, yet claiming 300........to much loss for me, they are garbage.

I believe their claimed 300 HP is at the crank not at the rwhp, thus the disparity. So 245rwhp is prolly about right for 300 at the flywheel. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Also, it looks like the Z06's true crank HP is closer to 525, from what I've read elsewhere...

Thats a 20% loss to driveline. Given mass production variations that would put it pretty close to that 300crank hp claim.

And if they claim 500, given the same 20% driveline loss, you will see 400 to the wheels. IMO the loss you saw on the 5 speed is probably from a poorly broken in motor. The GT500 will likely see around 15-17% loss, putting its wheel hp around 420hp, give or take 10hp.

300 x .15= 45-300=255 so its off by 10 hp. that could be from production...motor being beatin to shit...or not fully broken in yet..not to mention the dyno variances. A mag once tested 12 different dynos from mustang to dynojet and came up with a 70hp difference with the same car.

    hmm...maybe this will force gm to do a zl1 camaro...with a ls7 in it for 35k.

Both cars' ratings are from the new SAE Certified standard, which requires 3rd party verification. They are going to be spot on.

No, actually that's just about right, to allow for high boost pressure and no detonation

But they're only running a peak boost of 9psi.

Just imagine if the 06 Z06 was F/I that thing would be even more of a monster than it already is. Why can't Ford do it N/A? Must be missing the technology to do it.

u can pretty much use the same term, flywheel or crank to decribe just the engine's HP cant you?
