I know these aren't "Rock" drummers per se but, while I play rock (metal mostly) I'm sorta jaded when it comes to true talent.

Carter Beauford (dave matthews drummer) maybe not necessarily rock drummer but im sure he could play just about anything
Vinnie Paul ( at one point had the record for bpm, might still have it)

Cool. It's just that most folks don't look beyond the rock talents a drummer might posses.

I think I understand what you mean. I think that is what gives some entertainers the ability to stay in it a life time and still pick up new listeners. They have what it takes to really entertain.

What about Lars from Metallica? I have always had mixed feeling about Metallica and Lars. I can definitely say I don't mind their old stuff.

What about some good old southern rock, blues, or little Jazz.

ok, i shall check them out. Sorry, but I just never got hooked on Dave Mathews Band. I don't know why, lol... Maybe I can try it again, .

Hootie and the blow fish are right up there too...just never clicked with me for some odd reason.

gotcha. I think I follow and definitely a good point. I'll have to see how the kids respond to DMB, . I can put a couple of DMB vids, and then hit them with Pantera, lol...

    Terry Bozzio of Frank Zappa

    Danny Carey of Tool

Virgil Donati of Planet X (but he's more know for his drum sessions)

Carter Buford of Dave Mathews Band

I have the tape and the liquid dvd of Mike Portnoy and Virgil Donati's first tape.

    Edit
Looks like I took too long looking up names/bands

Tommy Aldridge? Is there an E in there? Is he from Whikesnake?

I am the worst for names and stuff.

Philthy Animal Taylor - Motorhead, ah. The kids need to hear a little Motorhead for sure.

Jakson Spires - is that Blackfoot? Is it Jackson or Jakson? I am like on Google and You tube overload, lol.

I think he started with Ozzzy, Blizzard of Oz and Diary of a Madman but has played with Whitesnake, Pat Travers, and who knows who else
And everyone knows Motorhead is my fave band .. AKA my nickname and Avatar
