The great drummers of Rock N Roll

So I was hittin you tube and letting my kids hear The Who. I got to thinkin, I'm bored, and curious.

We were watchin the old Who Vids, with Keith Moon.

What do you folks out there think are some of the top notch drummers out there?

Ok so I'm startin with Keith Moon.
I will follow up with the guys from Rush, i need to google his name though.

I think all the solid genres are fair game for this question. As everyone chimes in I look forward to hittin you tube or were ever to check out some of the music.

ah yes good one, how could i forget him. i confess i'm not a big fan of Jimmy though.

I have always like the solid rhythm and beat of Jimmy Hendrix and his trio. Any one know who the drummer was for him?

I am not good with songs, well, because my head can't hold too much info. But I can still hear the high hat and the ting of the symbols going. I don't know if it was stairway to heaven or one of their other songs. But it is clear as day. I remember my brother was really into drums and he practiced that part of the song for hours and days.

    Sadly now demodded :(

    Rush = Neil Peart

    Jimi Hendrix = Mitch Mitchell

And, TBHWY, Keith Moon was pretty sloppy as drummers go.

As far as prog Rock, Bill Bruford (Yes and others) is good for syncopations. Carl Palmer (Emerson Lake and Palmer or ELP) really kicks ass.

I'm a drummer. I could go on for days.

If you're at all into fusion try Akira Jimbo or the group he played with called Casopiea. That stuff will blow your mind.

oh please do. I look forward to looking up the music and trying it out.

lol...Keith Moon always put a smile on my face. I think i heard a quote somewhere once. He was like an octopus or something like that. I thought he played like a hyper three year old monkey, lol... But, I thought the music was great.

    syncopations, now that sounds interesting.

I was never into Yes, but I do remember them a tiny bit.

Syncopation is when you play at the same meter as the rest of the band but you don't play the typical 2 and 4 as the downbeat (in a 4/4 staff). Such as 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and. this repesents 1/8 notes in a 4/4 (4 quarter notes = 1 bar) with emphasis on the bold notes.

This is very simple explanation. I take it you don't read music?
