Actually, it sounds about right. To do the job right, it's painting door jams, hatch jams, under hood, etc. It's a BIG job, and the materials alone are alot of $$$$$$.

    I'll do it for $5,000

Just had mine repainted and new decals put on for just under $4,000. But, it was simply new coats on the existing black. I think $6,000 sounds about right for a complete color change, what with all that's necessary.

Oh yeah, I only paid $100 for mine....got it on an insurance comp claim!

The guy at the local ford dealership told me about $1,500-$2,000 for a fresh paint job the same color... I asked about SOM and he said at least $2,500

I was quoted $4000 on mine for the same color so, yeah $6000 sounds about right.

yup sounds right to me.. unless you just want the areas you can see painted that color which would be ugly.... to do all the jams, and all... it's a pain to prep and paint. it's good to have friends that do paint.... cost me around $1000 in material to completely repaint my last Z71 black with house of color flames, hand painted flame edging, and around 15 coats of clear coat.

15 COATS OF CLEAR!!!!!!!!! Honestly, that paint job wouldn't have lasted long......good thing you don't have it anymore. When you keep adding material like that, you're asking for nothing but MAJOR problems......cracking, etc. There is no reason at all to apply more than 6 coats of clear.....that's plenty of material to completely sand out flame edges, whatever for a perfectly smooth finish.
